As a precautionary measure, Cargill Value Added Meats Retail, a business unit of Wichita-based Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation, today announced an immediate Class I voluntary recall of approximately 185,000 pounds of 85-percent-lean fresh ground turkey products produced at the companyâs Springdale, Ark., facility on Aug. 23, 24, 30 and 31, 2011, due to possible contamination from Salmonella Heidelberg. Cargill is initiating this recall as a result of one confirmed test sample taken by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) during a post-August 3 recall review of the processing facility, which yielded low levels of the same Salmonella Heidelberg strain that appears to match the strain previously associated with human illness.

Toyota on Wednesday said it is recalling about 50,000 early-2003 Model-Year Toyota Sequoia sport utility vehicles to upgrade the vehicle stability control (VSC) system. The VSC system helps control a loss of traction during turns and in vehicles without the upgrade, the VSC system could, in some situations, activate at low speed and, as a result, the vehicle may not accelerate as quickly as expected.

TORRANCE, Calif. â March 16, 2010 â Honda will recall approximately 344,000 Odyssey and 68,000 Element vehicles from the 2007-2008 model years in the U.S. to modify the Vehicle Stability Assist⢠(VSA®) modulator. Honda has received customer complaints of brake pedals that feel âsoftâ or that gradually exhibit a pedal height that gets lower (closer to the floor) before the vehicle stops. In affected vehicles, this condition tends to very slowly increase over time.
Some VSA modulators were assembled in a manner that could allow air intrusion, making it possible for air to enter the modulator during the VSA self-check mode. While only a miniscule amount of air can enter the system during each check, over a period of months or years, the air will accumulate and can result in the âsoft brake pedalâ or âlow brake pedalâ condition symptoms associated with this issue. Although not all vehicles being recalled are affected by this issue, we are recalling all possible units to assure all customers that their vehicles will perform correctly.
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of these vehicles to take their vehicle to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification from Honda that their vehicle is affected. Notification to customers will start at the end of April.
Once owners of these vehicles receive written notification of this recall from Honda, they should contact their authorized Honda dealer to schedule an appointment for repair. When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers. To this end in addition to contacting customers by mail, after April 19, 2010, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicle requires repair by going on-line or calling. Honda owners can go to www.recalls.honda.com or call (800) 999-1009, and select option 4. |

The Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG), in response to a recommendation from the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to the food industry, announced today that it is voluntarily recalling Pringles Restaurant Cravers Cheeseburger potato crisps and Pringles Family Faves Taco Night potato crisps as part of an industry ingredient recall to protect consumers from potential Salmonella exposure. There have been no reports of Salmonella-related illness in relation to these products.
P&G was notified by one of its suppliers that a seasoning used in these two products contains hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) manufactured by Basic Food Flavors, Inc., who has voluntarily recalled several lots of this ingredient because of potential salmonella exposure. As a result, the FDA has recommended that food manufacturers recall certain types of products containing HVP manufactured by Basic Food Flavors, and P&G is complying with this guidance.
Only products with the following âbest byâ dates are being recalled. The âbest byâ date for each product can be found on the bottom of the can.
Product Name: Pringles Restaurant Cravers Cheeseburger, Super Stack Canister, 181 grams
UPC Code: 37000 26936
âBest byâ date: 02/2011 - 04/2011
Product Name: Pringles Family Faves Taco Night, Super Stack Canister,
181 grams
UPC Code: 37000 26773
âBest byâ date: 03/2011 - 04/2011 - 05/2011
No other Pringles varieties or flavors are affected by this recall. These two products represent only one half of one percent of Pringlesâ U.S. volume. None of the affected products have been shipped to retailers outside of the United States.
The safety of our products is P&Gâs top priority, and we follow rigorous food safety and ingredient testing standards. We are withdrawing these products out of an abundance of caution for consumer safety and in response to FDAâs recommendation to the food industry.
Salmonella is a common food borne pathogen that can cause severe illnesses, including fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. While most individuals recover without medical intervention, the infection can be life-threatening in some cases such as young children, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. There have been no reports of Salmonella-related illness to date in relation to these products.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled products should discard the product and call P&G for a replacement coupon or refund at 1-877-876-7881 (Hours of operation: Monday - Friday, 9AM - 6PM US ET) |

GM Recalls Compact Cars to Fix Power Steering Assist
Safety Recall Covers 1.3 Million Chevrolet and Pontiac Models
2005 - 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt
2007 - 2010 Pontiac G5
2005 - 2006 Pontiac Pursuit (Canada)
2005 - 2006 Pontiac G4 (Mexico)

DETROIT -- General Motors will conduct a safety recall of 1.3 million compact cars to replace a motor in the power steering system. Vehicles affected are the 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt; 2007-2010 Pontiac G5; 2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuit sold in Canada, and the 2005-2006 Pontiac G4 sold in Mexico.
GM told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the voluntary recall on Monday after concluding an investigation that began in 2009. NHTSA opened an investigation Jan. 27 into approximately 905,000 Cobalt models in the United States after receiving more than 1,100 complaints of loss of power steering assist, 14 crashes and one injury.
"After our in-depth investigation, we found that this is a condition that takes time to develop. It tends to occur in older models out of warranty," said Jamie Hresko, GM Vice President of Quality. âRecalling these vehicles is the right thing to do for our customers' peace of mind.
"While greater steering effort under 15 mph may be required, if the customer experiences loss of power steering assist, it is important to note that the vehicle can still be safely controlled because the customer can still steer the vehicle,â Hresko said. âWhen the condition occurs, both a chime will sound and a âPower Steeringâ message will be displayed.â
Plans for the remedy are being developed. Customers will be notified when the plan is finalized.
