Eric Clapton To Headline Summerfest!
MILWAUKEE – March 30, 2010 – Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. officials are excited to announce the sixth performance slated for Summerfest 2010. Eric Clapton will headline the Marcus Amphitheater on June 28 at 7:30pm, along with special guest, Roger Daltrey.
British rock guitarist, Eric Clapton, started playing guitar as a young boy. He was heavily influenced by blues musicians, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker. Although Clapton has varied his musical style throughout his career, it has always remained grounded in the blues. Despite this focus, he is credited as an innovator in a wide variety of genres. These include blues-rock, psychedelic rock, adult contemporary and reggae. He is often credited for bringing reggae and Bob Marley to the mainstream. Now hailed as a “guitar great” around the world, his career has spanned more than 40 years. Over time, Clapton has been a major musical force in numerous legendary bands, including John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, The Yardbirds, Cream, Traffic, Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominos. Clapton has been the recipient of numerous music awards, including 18 Grammy Awards. He is the only triple inductee into the Rock ’n Roll Hall of Fame as a member of both The Yardbirds, Cream and as a solo artist. His song repertoire includes: “Layla,” “Cocaine,” “Wonderful Tonight,” “Crossroads,” “Sunshine of Your Love” and “Tears in Heaven” to name a few.
Opening for Eric Clapton is one of rock’s most powerful lead vocalists of all time, Roger Daltrey. Daltrey is best known as the founding member and lead singer of English rock band, The Who. Daltrey has performed rock anthems like “My Generation,” Won’t Get Fooled Again” and “Giving It All Away.” Daltrey recently performed with The Who for the 2010 Super Bowl halftime show.
Tickets go on sale Saturday, April 10 at noon and all include Summerfest admission. Summerfest also recently announced the following ground stage headliners: The Scorpions, Danny Gokey, The Bravery, Modest Mouse, O.A.R., The Roots, Kool & The Gang, The Devil Wears Prada, The Wailers and Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. Summerfest 2010 will take place June 24 – July 4 from noon until midnight daily. The World’s Largest Music Festival and Milwaukee’s cornerstone summer celebration attracts the music industry’s hottest stars, emerging talent and local favorites. The Marcus Amphitheater and 10 additional stages, along with a diverse selection of food and beverage vendors, marketplaces and interactive exhibits, are set against the Lake Michigan and downtown backdrops, creating a festival experience like no other.
