Fun WEEKEND!

It was crazy Saturday night when Elizabeth and I had way too much fun at my favorite bar in the city "This is It" ... Why does my head hurt this morning?

Can't a Frog Get a Little (Green) Peace?
Poor Kermit the Frog. He and his long-time beau, Miss Piggy, broke up over the summer. Just another in a long line of celebrity break-ups this year. He asked for privacy, but of course, you know the media. Now, they're falling over themselves to report that Kermit's got the googly eyes for a certain red-headed pig named Denise who works in ABC's Marketing Department. She's undoubtedly working on the PR for The Muppets, which debuts soon on that network. But poor Kermit. Now he's in a spot where he has to talk about his relationships - again! Sheesh. I can't believe I already have to do this again... Here is the official statement on my relationship status: pic.twitter.com/gRCyl3xbfz — Kermit the Frog (@KermitTheFrog) September 1, 2015

44th in the 49th
President Barack Obama has been busy this week, visiting the nation's 49th state and making some points about climate change in the process. While in Alaska, he did some salmon fishing, taped a TV show with Bear Grylls, and visited some very remote spots - places they say no US President has visited before. It does not appear that he bumped into Sarah Palin at all - which would have been pretty darned intersting, don't ya think? He's posting his own pictures to Instagram, and even videotaping his personal travelogue. It's almost like he's auditioning for his own reality series. I mean, he will be looking for something to do at the end of January, 2017.

Vince Wilfork Texas Stylin'
HBO's Hard Knocks is in its tenth season of following one NFL team through its training camp as the players get ready for the full season. This year, the show focuses on the Houston Texans. Vince Wilfork, one of the biggest defensive linemen around, signed with the Texans in the off-season when the New England Patriots opted not to sign him up for another season. The Hard Knocks folks caught Vince showing up at practice wearing short-legged bib overalls, cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. And that's it. The video will make you laugh - especially when his coach catches a glimpse.

You Have to Have a Sense of Humor
When you're a new mom, your body can do strange things to you when you least expect it. Just ask Jennifer Love Hewitt. She gave birth to her second child, a boy, not too long ago. On Tuesday, she headed out to a meeting, and her breast produced some milk that leaked right through her outfit. She covered for it nicely, and even tweeted about it. Check it out, and have a little chuckle. Jennifer sure did.   Lactated through silk jumpsuit mid meeting. Had to buy scarf for dignified exit. #hotelgiftshop #mommylife pic.twitter.com/vU0HBmCrx3 — Jennifer Love Hewitt (@TheReal_Jlh) September 1, 2015

Can I Get an Unsend Button, ASAP?
Here's one that's funny and sad at the same time. A guy in Illinois interviewed for a job and was offered a position. Somehow, when he got the offer, he managed to text two naked pictures of himself to the company's human resources manager. She called the police. When he called the next day to follow up on the job, she figured out the pictures had come from him, and the cops paid a visit. He says he did it by accident. A police spokesman told The Chicago Tribune: "We're seeing it much more often now with our young people sending inappropriate photos of themselves. They're sharing it with someone else and the next thing you know it takes on a life of its own." And in case you're wondering, the guy's back on the job market.

Which Fight Club Rule Does This Break?
Two daycare workers in New Jersey are facing charges after authorities learned they were organizing a fight club with the kids they were charged with watching. The kids were between the ages of four and six, and cell phone videos posted to SnapChat by one of the workers show the two of them encouraging the kids to push and slap each other. The whole thing got tagged with Fight Club because one of the two women referenced the Brad Pitt movie in one of her videos. So, we know there are eight rules to Fight Club: 1st rule: You do not talk about Fight Club. 2nd rule: You DO NOT talk about Fight Club. 3rd rule: If someone says "stop" or goes limp, taps out, the fight is over. 4th rule: Only two guys to a fight. 5th rule: One fight at a time. 6th rule: No shirts, no shoes. 7th rule: Fights will go on as long as they have to. 8th rule: If this is your first night at Fight Club, you HAVE to fight. How about a new 9th RULE: No pre-schoolers in Fight Club. Works for me.

Kanye Wiggles
If you've got kids, then chances are good you know the Wiggles. In the 90s and into the 00s, they were a very popular singing group that appealed to the pre-school market. They had a TV show, CDs, and even a feature movie in the late 90s. In my household, they were about as popular as Barney, the big purple dinosaur. My kids liked them. I did not. That said, someone created a mash-up that made it on-line yesterday of Kanye West appearing to dance to the Wiggles' "Fruit Salad." It's Kanye dancing in the aisles at the VMAs - lord knows to what - but it sure looks like it could have been to "Fruit Salad," don't you think? (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Kanye West dancing to The Wiggles - Fruit Salad Kanye West dancing to The Wiggles - Fruit Salad is the best thing you will see on facebook today.via @kanye_dancing (Twitter) Posted by Universal Music Australia on Tuesday, September 1, 2015

"Not to Be Sexist, But..."
Star Wars has a Facebook page. If you knew that already, you could be a Star Wars geek. But that's not important right now. One of the characters in the much-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens is Captain Phasma, played by Gwendolyn Christie who also plays Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones. The Star Wars folks are having an art contest, inviting people to submit drawings of characters from the upcoming film. (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Feeling inspired by Phasma? Your Star Wars: The Force Awakens-inspired art could land you a spot in a professional art... Posted by Star Wars on Thursday, August 27, 2015 That's one artist's conception of Captain Phasma, and the reaction to it was pretty good. Until one guy - probably one of those internet trolls - posted a comment: "Not to be sexist, but it's really hard to tell that's female armor for me." First off, nothing good is ever followed by the phrase "not to be sexist, but..." Second, it's armor. Not designed to be curve-hugging. As the Star Wars pagemaster pointed out: "It's armor. On a woman. It doesn't have to look feminine." In order words, back off, Jack. Don't make me flick on my lightsaber!

Whale Watch Play-by-Play
This is some incredible footage taken from a show called Big Blue Live on BBC One's BBC Earth in England. Steve Backshall was interviewing a whale expert while on a whale watch when his helicopter camera crew let him know that a blue whale - the biggest animal on the planet - had been spotted nearby. This all happened live, and Steve got absolutely breathless with his play-by-play as the giant mammal sucked in lungsful of air prior to diving below the surface to feed for a bit. Amazing, really, in so many ways. Check it out... (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); The moment we spotted a blue whale - LIVE! GROUNDBREAKING TV MOMENT! Steve Backshall is interrupted by a blue whale live on BBC One for BBC Big Blue Live. During an interview with whale expert Dorris Welch, Steve has to intervene and cut live to a BLUE WHALE! Posted by BBC Earth on Monday, August 31, 2015

Breakfast All McDay
McDonald's announced yesterday that it will be serving breakfast all day long. That's a nationwide move starting on October 6, following what must have been a successful test run in San Diego that started in the spring. McDonald's see the all-day breakfast as a way to goose slumping sales. Time will tell. Back when the test program began in San Diego, it was greeted with a bit of skepticism. Like from The Late Late Show's James Corden, who had this to say about it on April Fools Day...

The Name is Street... Too Street
Talk about poor choice of words. Anthony Horowitz, the guy currently in charge of writing new James Bond books, was on a promotional tour for his latest work, and the subject of Idris Elba came up. Idris, who's got a string of movie and TV credits, is thought to be a frontrunner to replace Daniel Craig as the next 007. Horowitz had this to say: “For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond.” Wow. For a writer, you'd think he'd choose his words a bit more carefully. The good news is, he did apologize, so there's that...

Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained
A Marine named Jarrod Haschett posted a video to all sorts of social media a little over a year ago, hoping to get a date for the Marine Corps Ball in December. An even though it's the Air Force's motto, this Marine aimed high. He wanted to escort UFC fighter Ronda Rousey to the ball. The video got close to 5 million hits. And guess what? Ronda saw it, and said yes. All Jarrod has to do is find dates for Ronda's three girlfriends. I think Jarrod's "hoo-ahh!" could be heard around the country.

Ah, the White Knight After All
So Donald Trump took to Twitter yesterday to whine. Well, sort of. He wanted to let the world know that he felt "totally stupid" for "turning down millions of dollars" in campaign contributions. Really? That's what it takes to make him feel totally stupid? Good to know the bar's been set, anyway. I’m turning down millions of dollars of campaign contributions—feel totally stupid doing so, but hope it is appreciated by the voters. — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 1, 2015

Say It Ain't So - Please Say It Ain't So
A day after the Video Music Awards, during which Kanye West ran about ten minutes past his alloted two minutes, the folks at TMZ are reporting that MTV wants Kanye to host the show next year. Seriously? I mean, what did we do to deserve that, MTV? We've been good, haven't we? It's bad enough you wouldn't let the guys in the control room cut him off when he went over. It's bad enough one of your execs followed him to his dressing room to tell him how terrific he was. Now you want to put him in as host? Are you prepared for a weekend-long event, MTV? Cuz that's how this is shaping up!

Just a Little Harsh, Wouldn't You Say?
So it looks like Demi Lovato's performance at MTV's Video Music Awards on Sunday wasn't all that well received. She performed outside the theater on a stage set up on there, and the people inside the auditorium watched on monitors. Demi was wearing what's been described as "dominatrix-style" boots and a bedazzled dress. And when Iggy Azalea joined her on stage - well, things didn't get much better. One viewer at home had a pretty harsh tweet about it. Check it out...   loving the demi and iggy performance! pic.twitter.com/0qWitxoxkC — nick. (@XXIPilots) August 31, 2015

Downton Abbey Wrapping Up
Are you ready for it, Downton Abbeyites? Your favorite series is wrapping up this season, which starts September 20. The folks at ITV released this trailer over the weekend. It feels a little sad, but a little uplifting too. Sort of like a rite of passage. What do you think?

Hotel California, Sin Musica
This video's several months old, but I just stumbled on it, and it's worth sharing. An a capella group called Cubanos Acapella performed the Eagles' classic, "Hotel California." No music, except the music created by the performers. Percussion, guitars and more, all created vocally. And it's perfection. Check it out.

"Like That Little Cage is Gonna Help Ya"
Those sharks keep on coming. Check out this video of a monster shark leaping out of the water. You can get a sense of its size from the shark cage's pontoons in the foreground. The best part is the look on the face of the Australian Today Show's anchor and his co-host. They're both completely dumbfounded, and vow never to go in the water again. Check it out.   (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); "I'm never going into the ocean again" - KarlWhat. was. that.#Today9 Posted by TODAY on Sunday, August 30, 2015

Hello Again, Denali
Just before leaving for a trip to Alaska, President Obama righted what many Native Americans see as a century old wrong. The name of America's highest peak, Mount McKinley in Alaska, has been changed back to its original name, Denali. In the native tongue, the word means "the high one." The story of how it became known as Mount McKinley - named after President William McKinley, who was only a candidate for the presidency at the time - is pretty funny. A gold prospector came ouf of the Alaskan wilderness, telling stories about the sights he'd seen, including this very high mountain. He decided that it should be named for McKinley, a Republican from Ohio who had never been and never would end up going to Alaska. Makes perfect sense, right? And that's it? Native American groups in Alaska have been fighting for the name change since Alaska became a state in 1959.  Who says bureaucracies move slowly?

President Kanye?
Oh yes he did. At the VMA's last night, Kanye West announced - after a four-hour speech (okay, maybe it wasn't that long, but it sure felt like it was!) - that he was running for president in 2020. Sadly, he means President of the United States. He dropped the mic right after saying that and walked off stage to a cheering crowd. It's not clear whether they were cheering the announcement, or the fact that he was finally done talking. I'm thinking the latter...
