Generic Name: diazepam (dye AZ e pam)
Brand Names: Valium
http://imgfeedget.com/52726/img0/valium/1_headpharmacy4.pngWhat is Valium?
Dr. Holly takes us inside the brain to show us why depression is more than just a "down mood."
Valium (diazepam) belongs to a group of drugs called benzodiazepines. Diazepam affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause anxiety.
Valium is used to treat anxiety disorders, alcohol withdrawal symptoms, or muscle spasms. Valium is sometimes used with other medications to treat seizures.
Valium may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Important information about Valium
You should not use Valium if you are allergic to diazepam or similar medicines (Ativan, Klonopin, Restoril, Xanax, and others), or if you have myasthenia gravis, severe liver disease, narrow-angle glaucoma, a severe breathing problem, or sleep apnea. Do not use Valium if you are pregnant. It could harm the unborn baby.
Before you take Valium, tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, asthma or other breathing problems, kidney or liver disease, seizures, or a history of drug or alcohol addiction, mental illness, depression, or suicidal thoughts.
Do not drink alcohol while taking Valium. This medicine can increase the effects of alcohol.
Never take more of this medication than your doctor has prescribed. An overdose of Valium can be fatal.
Valium may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it.
http://imgfeedget.com/52726/img0/valium/2_headpharmacy4.pngBefore taking Valium
Valium may be habit forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Never share Valium with another person, especially someone with a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a place where others cannot get to it. You should not use Valium if you are allergic to diazepam or similar drugs (Ativan, Klonopin, Restoril, Xanax, and others), or if you have:
myasthenia gravis (a muscle weakness disorder);
severe liver disease;
a severe breathing problem; or
sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleep).
Do not give Valium to a child younger than 6 months old.
To make sure you can safely take Valium, tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions:
asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), or other breathing problems;
kidney or liver disease;
epilepsy or other seizure disorder;
a history of mental illness, depression, or suicidal thoughts or behavior; or
a history of drug or alcohol addiction.
FDA pregnancy category D. Do not use Valium if you are pregnant. It could harm the unborn baby. Use effective birth control, and tell your doctor if you become pregnant during treatment. Valium may cause low blood pressure, breathing problems, or addiction and withdrawal symptoms in a newborn if the mother takes the medication during pregnancy. Diazepam can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. The sedative effects of Valium may last longer in older adults. Accidental falls are common in elderly patients who take benzodiazepines. Use caution to avoid falling or accidental injury while you are taking this medicine.
http://imgfeedget.com/52726/img0/valium/3_headpharmacy4.pngHow should I take Valium?
Take Valium exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.
Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results.
Measure liquid medicine with a special dose measuring spoon or medicine cup, not with a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
Valium should be used for only a short time. Do not take this medication for longer than 12 weeks (3 months) without your doctor's advice. Do not stop using Valium suddenly without first talking to your doctor. You may have increased seizures or unpleasant withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking Valium. You may need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely. Call your doctor at once if you feel that this medicine is not working as well as usual, or if you think you need to use more than usual.
To be sure Valium is not causing harmful effects, your blood may need to be tested often. Your liver function may also need to be tested. Visit your doctor regularly.
Store Valium at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.
Keep track of the amount of medicine used from each new bottle. Valium is a drug of abuse and you should be aware if anyone is using your medicine improperly or without a prescription.
http://imgfeedget.com/52726/img0/valium/4_headpharmacy4.pngWhat happens if I miss a dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222 . An overdose of diazepam can be fatal.
Overdose symptoms may include extreme drowsiness, loss of balance or coordination, confusion, limp or weak muscles, or fainting.
What should I avoid while taking Valium?
This medicine may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert. Do not drink alcohol while taking Valium. This medication can increase the effects of alcohol.
http://imgfeedget.com/52726/img0/valium/5_headpharmacy4.pngValium side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to Valium: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using Valium and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior;
unusual risk-taking behavior, decreased inhibitions, no fear of danger;
depressed mood, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself;
hyperactivity, agitation, aggression, hostility;
new or worsening seizures;
weak or shallow breathing;
feeling like you might pass out;
muscle twitching, tremor;
loss of bladder control; or

drowsiness, tired feeling;
dizziness, spinning sensation;
feeling restless or irritable;
drooling or dry mouth, slurred speech;
blurred vision, double vision;
mild skin rash, itching; or
loss of interest in sex.
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 .
What other drugs will affect Valium?
Before taking Valium, tell your doctor if you regularly use other medicines that make you sleepy (such as cold or allergy medicine, other sedatives, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression, or anxiety). They can add to sleepiness caused by Valium.
Tell your doctor about all other medicines you use, especially:
an antibiotic such as clarithromycin (Biaxin), dalfopristin/quinupristin (Synercid), erythromycin (E.E.S., EryPed, Ery-Tab, Erythrocin, Pediazole), or telithromycin (Ketek);
an antidepressant such as fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem) or fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem, Symbyax), and others;

Woo says that of all the characters on Dedicated Blood this season, Jessica stands revealed the most in his inclination in support of the make a pilgrimage she took in the headway of the season. Can't believe I'm about to write this...
Let me preface what I'm about to write by saying this: I'm not proud of myself…I'm not even HAPPY with myself. Ok, here goes!
I went to see Miley Cyrus last night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center, the "BANGERZ" tour. Having been in the radio industry my whole life, part of what I enjoy the most are the shows, whether I'm a fan of the artist or not, I enjoy a great production! I enjoy seeing the crowd and it's reaction to the artist that's performing. What I saw last night was Miley OWNING the crowd filled with fans of ALL AGES!
I say this MOSTLY in a joking manner, but I saw things THAT I CAN'T UN-SEE!!!!! For example: Miley took the stage by sliding down a GIANT TONGUE SLIDE. She "flew" around on a GIANT SAUSAGE. She even forgot the words to one of her own songs "Rooting For My Baby" and acknowledged it by saying she "MESSED UP" (she used other words to explain it, LOL). There were other things that happened during the show that I can't and won't talk about here, but all that said, it was worth the price of admission IMO...a GREAT PRODUCTION! Like Miley or not, she really CAN SING and again, she OWNED the crowd last night!
Ok, I waited as long as I could: I ENJOYED IT...ALOT!
I hope you won't hold that against me
An Evergreen Harvest â Cooking with Spruce
A long time favorite in Europe, spruce shoot syrup and beer are gaining popularity in North America. The tender new growth of spruce, pines and firs were also used by Native Americans and early settlers for food and medicine.
For the best flavor, harvest the tender new growth as it emerges in spring. Remove the papery brown covering before eating or processing.
Use them fresh to flavor fish dishes, sauce or salad dressing.
Or try something simple like tea. Just dry the needles and brew into tea. Or create spruce vinegar with brown rice, vinegar and pine or spruce shoots. Just place the shoots in a glass jar, cover with brown rice vinegar, seal and let it age for a month.
Spruce shoots are also used to add the unique flavor to the Canadian martini.
Ask before harvesting spruce shoots from private and public property. And only use shoots from evergreens free of pesticides.
A bit more information: For more tips on harvesting and recipes click here.. And for more on the history of brewing and cooking with evergreen shoots click here. If you want to skip or give them a try before harvesting and preserving your own, you can find them for sale on-line at Forbes Wild Food.

Birth Tree March 1 through 10 - Weeping Willow
The lovely and graceful weeping willow has long been a part of our landscapes. And, although it is the birth tree for those born between March 1st and 10th, think twice before planting this beauty in your backyard.
As birth trees go, the weeping willow represents beauty filled with a bit of melancholy. Individuals with this birth tree are also said to be tasteful, dreamers, restless and have good intuition.
Today the golden weeping willow is considered the standard and the one most of us know as weeping willow. This fast growing tree is hardy in zones 2 through 9, develops a stout trunk and is covered with long pendulous branches. It is tolerant of moist to wet soils and is often found growing along ponds and streams.
This large tree is perfect for wet areas where other trees fail and where the leaf, stem and fluffy seedpod litter and aggressive roots are not a problem.
A bit more information: The golden weeping willow can grow 50 to 80 feet tall with a broad canopy. If your yard is too small or you don’t want the litter issue, visit this graceful beauty in a nearby park or natural setting.

Leaf Spot on Philodendron
Philodendrons have long been considered one of the easiest to grow – hardest to kill houseplants. But even these robust beauties can suffer from too much love and attention.
Don't be embarrassed if you've killed this supposedly indestructible plant – many gardeners have. The most common complaints are yellow leaves with brown spots.
Leaf spot diseases are usually the culprit and improper watering the cause.
Take a close look at the container and your watering regimen. Make sure the pot has holes in the bottom for drainage. No matter how good a gardener, it is impossible to provide exactly the right amount of moisture every time you water.
Move your plant to a container with drainage holes if needed. For best results water this and most houseplants thoroughly whenever the top couple inches of soil feels like a damp sponge. Pour off any excess water that collects in the saucer. Plants sitting in water are more subject to root rot and leaf spot diseases.
A bit more information: Reduce your work load and improve your plants' growing environment by placing stones or marbles in the saucer. The excess water can collect in the saucer while the marbles elevate the pot and plant roots above the water. As the water evaporates it increases the humidity around the plant where it is needed.
