Are You Ready for Manhattanhenge?
Manhattanhenge happens a couple of times each year. It's the name for the days on which the setting sun lines up perfectly with Manhattan's gridded streets to create some awesome pictures. Manhattanhenge happens tonight and tomorrow night. NBC New York reports the best places to witness it are cross streets like 14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd and 57th streets. They recommend that you go as far east as you can in Manhattan without losing sight of New Jersey. Of course, that only works if you're in New York. So here's what it looked like a few years ago. And I'm sure you can find some decent video and shots on YouTube after tonight and tomorrow, asuming the weather cooperates.

Beyonce Meets Duck Tales
Sometimes, mash-ups of songs are a little silly. This is one of them - the video of Beyonce's "Single Ladies" mashed up with the theme song from Duck Tales. You know what? It sort of works. Check it out, just for the fun of it!   http://goodfriendspodcast.tumblr.com/post/119921659418/single-ladies-synced-up-with-the-ducktales-theme

A Full Circle Rainbow
This is tremendously rare. Some folks at the top of an observation tower over Niagara Falls shot some tremendous footage of a full-circle rainbow. It's an amazing thing to see! (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); When they realized what they were looking at here at Niagara Falls, their jaws dropped. It's a full circle rainbow! You’ll want to see it, too.(h/t to southlakemotors/YouTube) Posted by The Weather Channel on Thursday, May 28, 2015

Leave Those S'mores Alone!
Okay, now the government has gone too far! ChooseMyPlate.gov has published the recipe for a healthy alternative to S'mores, that melted-chocolate-and-marshmallow-on-graham-cracker concoction that's so messy and wonderful, especially in the summer. Ready? Instead of chocolate, strawberries. Instead of marshmallow, yogurt. And instead of graham crackers, a couple of pieces of cardboard. Okay, that last part's not real, but it might as well be. Nothing wrong with strawberries and yogurt - they make a nice parfait. But they pale in comparison to melty, drippy, messy chocolate and marshmallow. Mind your own beeswax, ChooseMyPlate.gov!   An easy treat kids will love- Strawberry S'mores! http://t.co/Pq2ZmADi35 #WhatsCooking pic.twitter.com/B6zUgZLMnk — ChooseMyPlate.gov (@MyPlate) May 24, 2015

Got an Extra $100 Million Hanging Around?
Neverland, the California ranch owned by Michael Jackson, is on the market. For just $100 million dollars, you can grab up the 2700-acre property in Los Olivos, just north of Santa Barbara. There are 22 structures in all, including the train station that's modeled after the one on the Disney properties, plus a swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court and a 50-seat theater. It's not called Neverland anymore - it's now Sycamore Valley Ranch - and the amusement park rides Jackson used to keep there are gone. The listing agents say they're pre-screening buyers to keep out Jackson fans. They don't want someone to buy it up and turn it into a Graceland-style attraction. Just in case that's what you had in mind.

"I Thought This Was Supposed To Be a Man's Movie"
Mad Max: Fury Road was screened at the Cannes Film Festival, and afterwards, some of the stars and the crew appeared in a press conference. A reporter from Toronto stood up and asked Tom Hardy, the actor who played Mad Max, if he questioned why there were so many women in the movie. "I thought this was supposed to be a man's movie," said the reporter. Tom's reaction is classic. Short, sweet, to the point. Check it out.

"Together, We Can Blow Up Anything"
Okay, I have to admit this. I saw this video last week, and thought it was just a promo for some new Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. But I just watched it again, and it turns out it's an invitation from Arnold to go to Los Angeles to spend some time with him, blowing stuff up. It's a fundraiser through Omaze.com that will help raise money for after-school programs. So yes, it will cost you to enter, but you'll be doing something good, and you could end up blowing stuff up with Arnold Schwarzenegger. You game?

Ladybugs Everywhere!
It's the end of the school year, and kids are getting a little buggy. At Chopticon High School in Morganza, Maryland, a few high school seniors took that bugginess to the extreme. They pulled off a senior prank that unleashed 72,000 ladybugs on the high school. I'm sorry, that made me laugh. It didn't make the school's administration laugh at all. In fact, one of the seniors involved wasn't allowed to walk the stage at graduation this week. Watch the story, and weigh in on it. Is this such a heinous thing that it should stop a prankster from graduating from high school?

Heartwarming & Funny
Every once in a while, the early rounds of America's Got Talent produces some genuine gems. This is one of those. Drew Lynch has a stutter, but that's not holding him back from following his dream to be a comedian. Watch his story, watch his act, and tell me you're not touched. And you'll be floored by what Howie Mandel does for him.

Jon Stewart, King of Analogies
The Daily Show covers all the hot topics of the day - with a trademark wit that will still be around (one hopes!) when Jon Stewart retires. In the meantime, we can still enjoy the spin Jon puts on the news. Like this story about the recent court ruling that the National Security Agency overstepped the Patriot Act in its phone data surveillance program. Jon has the perfect analogy for the ruling. I don't want to spoil the surprise, so check it out. (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); You know your surveillance program has gone too far when you cannot get permission from the Patriot Act. That's like getting thrown out of an Olive Garden for eating too many bread sticks." -- Jon Stewart► Watch the episode: http://on.cc.com/1J5b0mq Posted by The Daily Show on Wednesday, May 27, 2015

Next Up: The Death Star Building?
The new offices of Chinese on-line game developer NetDragon Websoft are out of this world. Well, not literally, but close. The company spent close to $160 million - including licensing fees - to build a headquarters that looks like the USS Enterprise - the one you know from the Star Trek movies. Check out the video from IGN News. It really is pretty incredible.

Congratulations, You're a Piglet
The actors from Game of Thrones are piling up the honors. Here's one that may leave them scratching their heads a bit, though. The folks at the Detroit Zoo this week unveiled four of five warthog piglets born there in April. The video shows Daenerys, Sansa, Cersei and Hodor playing in their enclosure. Tyrion, the runt of the litter, wasn't quite big enough for public display yet. Sounds about right...

Have Love & Mercy
There's a movie hitting the theaters on June 5 that's sort of flying under the radar, dwarfed by some of the blockbusters that will open the summer season. Love & Mercy is the story of Brian Wilson, one of the driving forces of the Beach Boys. They've got two actors playing the same guy - John Cusack and Paul Dano. Watch the trailer, and then watch the interview Variety magazine posted last fall with the actors in the movie. And make an appointment for early June - this one looks pretty good.

Drop & Give Them Twenty!
Jon Stewart posted a video of himself doing 20 pushups recently? Why? To raise awareness about America's veterans by dropping and giving them twenty, and posting it to social media and GiveThem20.org.   It doesn't cost you anything - just a few minutes of your time, and calling out two friends to do the same. Jon called out John Oliver and the New York Mets - which I'm pretty sure represents more than one person, but hey, he's Jon Stewart, and he can do what he likes. (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Jon accepts the #GiveThem20 challenge with 20 push-ups for veterans and calls out John Oliver and the New York Mets. ► Visit givethem20.org and American Corporate Partners (ACP) to join him and thank returning veterans. That Would Make Church & Temple More Interesting
Sometimes, you just have to take a stab at it, right? You're on Jeopardy!, the Final Jeopardy category is Hymns, and the answer is a doozy: A Christian hymn and a Jewish holiday hymn are both titled this, also the name of a 2009 Tony-nominated musical   The correct question: What is "Rock of Ages?" Choyon Manjrekar had a very unusual - and incorrect - question that has since gone viral. Check it out...

The Best Graduation Video This Year
Imagine you're graduating from high school. You're on stage, waiting to hear your name. You're waiting, and waiting, and you're really up there all by yourself. You think they've forgotten your name. Then they say your name. You grab your diploma, and you realize there's someone else on stage with you. Your mom. Home unexpectedly from a tour of duty in the Navy. The video says it all... Jonny Quest Going Live?
In the 1960s, the folks at Hanna-Barbera produced an animated series called Jonny Quest about the adventures of a boy scientist. It featured Jonny and his dog Bandit, his friend Hadji, his dad and their all-around tough guy, Race Bannon. It only lasted a couple of seasons, but it spawned a few attempts at being remade. And now, Robert Rodriguez (of Sin City fame, among others) is teaming up with a screenwriter from Pirates of the Caribbean to come up with a live action movie. If this were 30 years ago, Johnny Depp would make the perfect Jonny Quest... That doesn't mean he won't be playing it now, of course.

Doctor Bon Jovi, I Presume?
"I sat down and wrote you a song." That's the gift Jon Bon Jovi gave to graduates at the Camden campus of Rutgers University. The university conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters, and as part of his subsequent commencement address, he picked up his guitar. The song, called "Reunion," urged graduates "to go start your own revolution, and I'll see you at the reunion." It was the first time it was ever performed in front of an audience. I can see it getting played a lot more, can't you?

Actress and comedian Anne Meara passed away over the weekend at the age of 85. She and her husband, Jerry Stiller, were a pretty successful comedy team in the 60s, 70s and 80s. She appeared on a number of TV shows, including Sex and the City, All My Children and King of Queens. She's also the mother of Ben Stiller. Check out one of Stiller & Meara's appearances on The Carol Burnett Show...

John Legend Disses Jamie Foxx, Sorta
Last week on The Tonight Show, Jamie Foxx and Jimmy Fallon played Wheel of Musical Impressions. One of the voice/song combos Jamie dialed up was John Legend singing the Toys R Us jingle. It starts at 2:45 on the video below.(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Wheel of Musical Impressions with Jamie Foxx Jimmy challenges Jamie Foxx to a game of random musical impressions, such as John Legend singing the Toys "R" Us jingle. Posted by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 John Legend caught wind of it, and posted this response. Pretty cool, don't you think? We'll post this one in John's column.

Carpool Karoake with Justin Bieber, and It's Not a Carwreck
When you've got a late night talk show these days, you've got to develop signature bits. Cuz it's a tough market out there. James Corden's signature bit (so far, anyway) on The Late Late Show is Carpool Karaoke, where he picks up a guest and drives him or her to the show. Along the way, they have silly conversations, sing songs, stop passersby, eat fast food, and more. And they generate some laughs along the way. Check out his latest, with Justin Bieber.

Say It Ain't So, Mary-Kate and Ashley
Well, gang, it's official. The Olsen twins - Mary-Kate and Ashley - will not be joining the Full House sequel called Fuller House on Netflix. John Stamos, who will make guest appearances on the show as well as produce it, said he was heartbroken on Twitter, and then posted this. I understand they're in a different place and I wish them the best. I promise you will not be dissapointed with our reunion and spin off!! — John Stamos (@JohnStamos) May 23, 2015 They say it's so they can concentrate on their fashion line and other busines ventures. Personally, I think it's becaue they stopped looking like twins about 15 years ago. (By the way, John, you got "disappointed" wrong. But you are heartbroken, so I guess it's understandable.)

Game of Thrones: The Musical
On Thursday's Red Nose Day USA special on NBC, Chris Martin and Cold Play put together a 12-minute documentary video about their efforts to get their newest work, "Game of Thrones: The Musical," onto a Broadway stage. Okay, it's a spoof, but so well done. Plus, they had the help of a quite a few cast members from Game of Thrones, including Mark Addy (Robert Barateheon), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow). The narration by Liam Neeson really helps sell it. And Jon Snow singing "Wildling" to Ygritte (Rose Leslie) could well be the best part of it. Check it out.

The Old "Hidden Ball" Trick
It's the bottom of the ninth. You're down by one run. You've got two outs, and a pinch runner at second. The pitcher whirls around and tries to pick off the runner. The throw goes wild into the outfield. Your runner takes off for third. But wait. The pitcher is chasing your runner down. The pitcher had the ball in his glove the whole time. Tag. Your runner is out. Game over. Pretty exciting end for one team - pretty devastating for the other. What makes it even more interesting: it happened at a high school playoff game in Colorado. Check out the video...

Prehistoric Funk
I just stumbled on this video from a few months ago, but it's perfect for some holiday fun. One of the hottest songs of the year so far has been Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk." Turns out the beat and music are very similar to "Walk The Dinosaur," a song by a group called Was (Was Not) in 1987. Pretty amazing how close these two are. I wonder if Robin Thicke had anything to do with "Uptown Funk?"
