We're FOOTBALL parents now!

I’m a bit bias, but my son Anthony is a GREAT BASEBALL player.   I think he’s a great athlete in general.    Now though, for the first time EVER, he’s a HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYER!   (GO GREENDALE PANTHERS)

Anthony’s been asking my wife and I to play football for the last 2+ years and our answer has always been “nah, you’re a baseball player buddy, focus on that” LOL!  Well, I admit that MOST of the reason for our answer was b/c he REALLY TRULY is a great baseball player and we didn’t want him getting HURT playing football…I also explained to him that playing high school football wasn’t anything like just getting together in the backyard with friends and throwing the ball around and that it’s ALOT of work, practice, sweat etc…

Well, he’s not backed down AT ALL and we just figured hey, he wants to do it, let him find out all of the hard work involved and see what happens!  The result:  HE’S RAN WITH IT and is excited to be doing it!  He’s already gotten hurt in camp, got whiplash, was out for a week and came back WITH MORE FIRE to do it!   We didn’t DOUBT he’d have the passion and drive to do it…we just worried he thought it was something that it’s not.  He’s showed us he’s ready for the challenge!

It’s been FUN to watch him learn something new…and he’ll get better and better as the practices and games begin!  My wife and I look forward to being a FOOTBALL Mom & Dad for the first time and just enjoying the ride!

In the end, it’s ALL about the experiences Anthony will have and the memories he’ll start making in high school that TRULY matter!

Thanks for reading!  Thanks for listening!  Just…THANKS!

Great visit from Mom-Mom!

My Mother-In-Law’s been in town for the last 10 days, visiting from Phoenix.   There are 2 reasons that Mom-Mom came to visit:  to see her Grandchildren  and …to see her grandchildren!  Seriously!  That’s perfectly fine, we KNOW she loves us too!  Wait, make that 3 reasons…our house is spotless now too…THANKS MOM!

I think we’ve shown Mom a great time during her visit.  Sarah and the kids took her to the Milwaukee County Zoo, then a pool day at Cool Waters and the last thing we did was Festa Italiana!  THAT was her favorite!

Festa Italiana was AMAZING!  We went on Friday night and HOLY RICEBALLS!  And lasagna sticks!  And zucchini sticks!  And eggplant sticks!  And calamari!  And CHOCOLATE CANNOLIS!  SOOOO many great foods to eat, music to hear, things and people to see…was a great experience!  Can’t wait for next year!

As always, THANK YOU for reading and for listening to 99.1 The Mix!  Hope you have a GREAT week!

4th Of July Weekend 2014...AWESOME!

4th Of July Weekend 2014 was one for the ages!  LOVED having my daughter and our adopted son Cameron (not really, but kinda) here for the fun!  Here’s how it went down:

Friday:  First Summerfest experience for the family and I and it didn’t disappoint!  Food, FUN, laughs, music and just a great time enjoying a MILWAUKEE SUMMER DAY…it FINALLY showed up!

Saturday:  Used bumpers and STILL got beat by a 3-year old, two 14-year olds, a 15-year old and my wife Sarah.  I’m NOT GOOD at bowling!

Sunday:  Spent the day in Lake Geneva and ya’ know…NO BIG DEAL… just drove a speedboat for the FIRST TIME EVER!   WHAT A RUSH!  Can’t wait to do it again!  Kids jumped off the boat and swam around for a bit and we just relaxed for a couple of hours…was PEACEFUL & AMAZING!

I hope you and yours had a GREAT holiday weekend as well!

As always, thanks so much for reading and THANK YOU for listening to 99.1 The Mix!

WHAT A WEEKEND!

If I had to pick JUST ONE WORD to describe this past weekend,   it’d be:  AMAZACRAZYAWESOME!   (I totally just made that word up)
Spent the weekend with the family at Key Lime Cove and WE HAD A BLAST!   Alyssa, Anthony, Ben and Cameron had the time of their lives on the water slides!  Sarah and I LITERALLY DID NOTHING on the lazy river, which I think is the idea when you’re on that LOL.

Embarassing moment alert:  I fell asleep on my tube and some random kid cruisin’ down the river decided he’d flip me over (that’s HARD to do)...that was a fun way to wake up!

It really was a GREAT family getaway…FUN & RELAXING!   Highly recommend!

As always, thank you for reading and thank you for listening to The Mix!

LIFE.IS.GOOD.

WHEW!  Now that the U.S./Germany game is over and the U.S. backed into the KNOCKOUT ROUND of the World Cup, I can write about how AWESOME the last few days have been and HOW MUCH FUN the next 2 weeks are gonna be!

On Tuesday, my daughter Alyssa came to visit for 2 weeks from NJ!  Yesterday, Neon Trees came by before their SUMMERFEST performance…then Jonathan Jackson from the hit show “Nashville” came to the radio station and did his thing for us.  Last night, we sat around the dinner table and played Apples To Apples.  FUN GAME!

This weekend, my son Anthony has a baseball tourney in Crystal Lake, IL and his games are on Saturday & Sunday.  Soooo, what are we gonna do IN BETWEEN?  Glad you asked!   Key Lime Cove for the ENTIRE WEEKEND and just a GREAT TIME as a FAMILY, TOGETHER!  Sorry, CAPS LOCK is broken LOL (not really)

What MORE could I ask for?  That’s right, not much.  I already have what I need…including YOU!  Thanks as always for listening,  thanks for reading this and most importantly, thanks for allowing me to be a part of your daily life!  Means SO much to me!

Have a GREAT WEEKEND!

Proud Papa!

My oldest son Anthony is 13, soon to be 14 on July 1st!   Another hard thing about leaving NJ for Milwaukee was having to pull Anthony, mid-year, from 8th grade.  ALL of his friends growing up were there…baseball teammates, there…his ENTIRE childhood, there!

I KNOW it wasn’t an easy thing for him to do.  Think about it...REALLY, I asked him to START ALL OVER!  6 months have now gone by…and how’s he doing?  HE'S KNOCKING IT OUT OF THE PARK!  AWESOME grades, he continues to make new friends, found a new travel baseball team and is LOVING Wisconsin life like the rest of us!   Last Friday, he graduated 8th grade from Greendale Middle School and I can’t believe it but: HE WILL BE A FRESHMAN next year at Greendale High School.  He’s also decided to try another sport and signed up for football!

I’d say that I’m surprised that Anthony took this challenge of picking up/leaving/starting all over and is just KICKING BUTT doing it, but that’s Anthony!  I didn’t think it’d turn out ANY.OTHER.WAY.

I’m SO PROUD of him and there aren’t enough words I could write in this blog to explain it properly!

Thank you so much for reading.  Thank you for making this an easy transition for ALL OF US!

The countdown Is ON...to June 24th!

I LOVE Milwaukee!  My FAMILY LOVES Milwaukee!  BUT…there was ONE REALLY HARD PART about leaving NJ to come here:  My now 15 year old daughter, Alyssa!  She lives in NJ and not a day goes by that we don’t chat on Facebook or text each other.  I’ve not seen her since Christmas, but THAT’S  about to change.  Tuesday June 24th can’t get here soon enough!  She’s coming to visit for TWO WEEKS and I CAN’T WAIT!

WE can’t wait to be a whole family again (EVEN IF it’s only for 2 weeks) and we’re gonna have some fun...already have a bunch planned!   My whole family and I are gonna get to EXPERIENCE SUMMERFEST for the 1st time together, we’ll do Lake Geneva, maybe even some Dells action…either way, just having Alyssa with us makes me HAPPY!

Thanks as always for reading…I certainly appreciate it!

Oh, and THANK YOU for listening to The Mix!

Lake Geneva...HOLY BEAUTIFUL!

Over the Memorial Day weekend, my family and I were in Crystal Lake, IL for my son Anthonys travel team, The Milwaukee Angels 13U tournament!   They ended up losing their 1st game on Sunday…which knocked them out!  SAD?  Yes!  However, it gave us a chance to spend some quality time together and DISCOVER places we’ve not seen yet.

By PURE ACCIDENT, we ended up in LAKE GENEVA!  OMG!  How BEAUTIFUL is this place!!!  We had a great dinner at Chuck’s Lakeshore Inn,  walked around for a bit and was in AWE of the scenery around us…beach filled, boats EVERYWHERE and that got me thinkin’…next time, we’re RENTING A BOAT!   I can do that right?  Even though I’ve never driven one before?  If not, gonna just take the boat tour J!

Bottom line:  we’re DEFINITELY going back to enjoy what Lake Geneva has to offer.  Oh, and THANK YOU SPRING FOR SHOWING UP!  FINALLY! (knock on wood)

Have a great weekend!

OMG! REALLY?

On May 16th,  I posted on FB that I’d been to Leon’s for the FIRST time!  People were AMAZED by that…ya’ know, since I’ve been here since December and my family since the end of February.  Well, I’m SAD (BUT ALSO GLAD) that it took this long to find it because:

A) We’d have been there every night (or every other, anyway)
B) See A!

Lesson learned…we’re gonna do more exploring for the great food Milwaukee and the surrounding areas have to offer.  PLEASE, feel free to share YOUR favorite places with me as well!  My family LOVES to eat J  We’re always down for finding great places to hang out and enjoy some great food and fun!

AS ALWAYS, THANKS SO MUCH for listening to The Mix!

"Oh, I WILL Take This on the Plane"
Some people are silly, I guess. Like this woman who tried to get on board a flight at Beijing Capital International Airport with a $200 bottle of Remy Martin XO Excellence cognac. When the airport security folks told her she'd have to leave it behind, she did what any logical human would do She drank the entire bottle. And got so drunk - fall-down drunk, in fact - that she wasn't allowed to board the fight. I guess she showed them, huh?

"See a Bus, Don't Move"
Deva Dalparto runs a web and YouTube site called MyLifeSuckers.com, dedicated to the moms of the world. But you don't have to be a mom, or even a parent, to enjoy the videos and blogs she posts. Her latest - just in time for Back to School Season - is "Bus, Don't Move," a parody of the 80s hit, "Bust a Move." It's pretty funny, and it also carries an important safety message to motorists: when you see a school bus, don't move.

Les Miserables = Less Miserable
You don't have to be a fan of Les Miserables - either the Broadway show or the movie - to appreciate this flash mob. The West Des Moines School District (in Iowa, of course) was holding its district-wide welcome to school meeting for teachers. And to put a little zest into the day, some teachers put together a teaching-oriented parody of one of the show's biggest ensemble pieces, "One Day More." At first, no one knew what was happening. But as more and more teachers stood up to sing their parts and join the others on stage, the rest of the audience really got into it. When it was done - and done quite well - the performers earned a standing ovation.

Ashley Madison, the TV Show?
One of the biggest data breaches going these days is the one involving AshleyMadison.com. That's the site where you can sign up and arrange an extra-marital affair if you're so inclined. Like they say, "Life is short. Have an affair." Now, a team of Hollywood producers has revealed they're working on a fictionalized show based on the website, about a single mom who launches the site as a way to make ends meet. Why now and why this, you wonder? “Anytime 30 million people are doing anything, it becomes worthy of a real discussion,” one of the producers told US Weekly. So, let's see if this ever makes it to air. The show is tentatively titled Thank You Ashley Madison. Meanwhile, the folks at Entertainment Tonight talked about what the breached data shows about the least- and most-faithful states in the USA. You might be surprised!

The End of SuM&Mer
I'm not in any hurry to get to fall, but apparently, the M&M people are. They just announced their newest flavor, and it has "fall" written all over it. New Pumpkin Spice Latte M&Ms, featuring the brown M&M on the packages wearing a scarf and holding a cup of latte. I'm sorry, it's too early. Take them back, M&M people! Just another month. That's all I ask. One. More. Month! Meanwhile, watch this hilariously awkward amateur food-tasting review about the new M&Ms posted to YouTube at the beginning of the week...

Space Oddity in Space
File this in your #TBT drawer: it's a video from a couple of years ago. I missed it, maybe you did too. Astronaut Chris Hadfield pulled a tour aboard the International Space Station in 2013. He was known as being media-savvy, steadily tweeting and doing other entertaining things. Like this little gem: performing David Bowie's "Space Oddity" in space. He tweaked the lyrics a bit - since space travel has changed a bit since Bowie recorded the song in 1969. The floating guitar and the floating singer really make this work. And Chris has a pretty decent voice.

Kim's Biggest Problem
The newly crowned queen of Instagram might have trouble in her kingdom. According to Star magazine - and you know they'd never lie! - Kim Kardashian has gained 65 pounds in her second pregnancy, and Kanye West is not at all happy about it. Kanye believes, according to the tabloid - and you know they'd never lie! - that Kim is gaining weight because she's using her pregnancy to binge on donuts and ice cream. And he wants her to lose the weight before she has the baby. If any of this is true, sounds like Kim's biggest problem is not the weight, but the maroon her got her pregnant.     RP: @carladibello GOOD MUSIC, GOOD TIMES! No big deal, except he used a painting worth $1.5 million to break his fall. And in the process, he managed to punch a hole in the painting. Watch the video. "Go Back to Univision"
When it comes to freedom of speech, it sounds like Donald Trump believes it applies only to him. Okay, so maybe that's a broad statement to be making based on one little incident, so you decide. The Donald's holding a press conference in Dubuque. A reporter from Univision - a Spanish-language television network aimed at America's Hispanic population - tried to ask a question. The Donald told him to sit down, as he hadn't been called. The reporter persisted, and it turned into a bit of a verbal tennis match, which involved The Donald telling the reporter to "go back to Univision." Then The Donald made a duck-lips face to his security team, and the reporter was removed. What do you think? Freedom of Donald Speech? Watch the video - decide for yourself.

No Sex in the City for Sarah Jessica Parker?
So, here's an interesting revelation. Originally, Sarah Jessica Parker did not want to play Carrie Bradshaw in Sex in the City. She reluctantly filmed the pilot and forgot about it. And when she found out the series had been picked up a few months later, she begged HBO to let her out of her contract. The story comes from a Broadway actor who recently spent some time doing a show with SJP and hubby Matthew Broderick in Massachusetts. HBO prevailed, as we know. But imagine if they hadn't. It's hard to picture anyone else playing that role. Of course, that's always difficult in retrospect. I don't think it would have been the same, do you? In case you've forgotten the show, here's a trailer for the first movie that the series spawned...

Looks Like the Devil Went Down to Congress Instead
County music legend Charlie Daniels posted an open letter to the Congress of the United States yesterday. To say he's not a happy camper is a darned accurate statement. He writes about how the courage that our country's leaders have shown in the past, and bemoans what he sees as the loss of that courage... "The courageous politicians that once championed this nation have been replaced, for the most part, by a breed of milksop, politically correct, scared of their own shadow, pushover, pathetic excuses for public servants who are supposed to be representing a constituency of citizens who have to live with the circumstances of their timid folly." Not happy in any way. He thinks the members of Congress should just pack up and go home, as he doesn't hold them in high esteem. "You're no longer men, you're puppets, you're caricatures, jokes, a gaggle of fading prostitutes for sale to anybody who can do you a political favor." Charlie's got an awful lot to say. Check it out, if you like, on his Facebook page. You can even react to it, if you like.

"Cain't Nuthin' Happen to You!"

Veteran passing on his knowledge to a bunch of rookies. Until... "Just in case y'all gonna decide not to do the right thing, if y'all got a crew, you got to have a fall guy in the crew." That's right. If you're new to the NFL and you're going to do something you shouldn't be doing, make sure you've got a hanger-on who'll be happy to say he did whatever it was so that you're off the hook. Wow. Just wow. Chris has apologized since the video hit. So far, the NFL says they don't condone that - but notice the logos on the walls behind Chris - and ESPN, where Chris works as a commentator, says it doesn't involve them. So he gets off, without even having a fall guy.

Hurry Up and Don't Panic?

Dudes, You've Been Rickrolled
The term's a new one for me: Rickrolling. From what I've read, it means being disruptive using Rick Astley's 1989 hit song, "Never Gonna Give You Up." I still don't completely get it, but when the Foo Fighters used it this weekend to stick it to members of the Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas City, it's fun to watch. I guess the WBCers have TFF on the hate list, so they gathered outside the Sprint Center Friday night to protest the band's appearance. Rather than duck and cover, Dave Grohl and the boys hopped into the back of a pick-up truck and drove right past the protestors, playing "Never Gonna Give You Up" at top volume. Check out the video.
