Celebrate St. Patrick?s Day with a Bit of Greenery

Add a bit of greenery to your St Patrick’s Day celebration with a green or purple leaf shamrock plant. You’ll find them in garden centers, florists and even grocery stores.

Grow these holiday plants in a bright location to keep them blooming and growing. Water thoroughly and often enough to keep the soil slightly moist, but not wet.

Newly purchased plants do not need fertilizing for several months. Use a dilute solution of any flowering houseplant fertilizer if your plants are actively growing and in need of a nutrient boost.

And don’t be alarmed when your plant starts to yellow and dry. It is normal for these plants to go dormant for a short period. Reduce watering frequency as the leaves start to yellow and dry. Place the plant in a cool dark location until new growth begins. Then bring it back into the sunlight, start watering and enjoy the show.

A bit more information: The original shamrock plant was likely a white clover. It symbolizes the arrival of spring, the season of rebirth.  St. Patrick is said to have used the Shamrock plant when he spread the word of Christianity in Ireland. He used the three leaves to symbolize the Holy Trinity, the father, the son and the holy spirit.

A Lannister Never Gives Up Spoilers
The other night on Conan, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau told some stories about offering up Game of Thrones spoilers. He plays Jamie Lannister on the show, and off-camera, he's got an interesting sense of humor. In this little tale, he talks about a random comment about a duck that had fans scrambling for clues and debating its significance. And after Conan begged a little, he gave up a little something about Dany's dragons... Watch....

Hiccups for the First Time
His name is Buck. He's eight weeks old. And he's experiencing his first case of the hiccups. This could be the cutest puppy video on the web right now. Poor thing has no idea what's going on, so naturally, he's got to try to scare them away...

The Last Witch Hunter Borrows from GOT?
Just caught the trailer for Vin Diesel's upcoming supernatural thriller, The Last Witch Hunter. It's due for release this October, so starting the teaser trailers six months out sounds about right. But watching it, I couldn't help but think about Game of Thrones. Several of the sets are reminiscent of the sets from GOT, plus Rose Leslie appears to be playing Vin's sidekick. That would be Rose Leslie, who played Ygritte, the wilding woman with whom Jon Snow fell in love. Sure, it's based in modern-day New York, but watch it and tell me you don't see the GOT overtones.

Clever Fox, Mutant Fox?
A crew from Radio Free Europe visiting the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in the Ukraine recently was greeted by a fox. The fox looked thin, so the folks decided to offer it some food - sausage and bread. Watch the video as the fox picks up the ingredients to make a five-decker sandwich which he carted away. Looks like the nuclear disaster may have caused a genetic mutation, giving this fox the superpower of sandwich-making. How long before we see X-Foxes in theaters?

And the Winner is...
The Kentucky Derby - the hottest thing going in American horse racing - will run tomorrow. The field is strong, but this year, there are no obvious front-runners. So what's a betting person to do when it comes to placing a bet? Why not ask Jimmy Fallon - because he's got the Puppy Predictors on his side. Check out the video of a group of 16 puppies, each representing a Derby entrant, racing to the finish line - a trough of kibble. You may bet accordingly. Keep an eye out - there's a sleeper or two in this bunch.

Bridge Ahoy!
I don't know why this one makes me smile, but it does. A mega-yacht - this one is 236 feet long - got scrunched a little bit trying to squeeze through a bridge that might be just a little too small in Saint Maarten. We really shouldn't delight in the misfortune of others, and we've all had our share of fender benders. But this one is soooo satisfying. Don't you think?

How Hot is This?
Buddy movies seem to work fairly well. Usually, they feature two mismatched male actors, starting out at odds with one another, and ending up best buds when the credits roll. But I'd be hard-pressed to come up with any buddy movies that feature two strong female actors. Looks like the dry spell is broken. Check out the trailer for Hot Pursuit, starring Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara as a rookie cop and federal witness on the run. I've got to admit, I laughed out loud a couple of times. I'm probably going to be in line when the film opens May 8...

That's a No-No, Bud
The folks at Budweiser have run into a problem with their #upforwhatever campaign. Their latest message: "The perfect beer for removing 'no' from your vocabulary for the night.” Someone posted it to reddit and it went viral - for exactly the wrong reason. Critics say the message at the very least promotes irresponsible drinking. Budweiser says that wasn't the intent of the message, that it was misconstrued. What do you think? Bud Light campaign tells drunk people to remove 'No' from their vocab. http://t.co/MjStI3B1rq pic.twitter.com/HKo43zwZ7i — Mashable (@mashable) April 28, 2015

Don't Taunt the Monkey
This little video will prove out something your mother must have told you once or twice. They call them "wild animals" for a reason. Here's a tourist in India who crosses the path of a wild monkey and makes an odd gesture at it. The monkey responds, and the tourist cranks the gesture up a notch. Just enough to really anger the monkey, who launches and lands a perfect drop-kick on the tourist, knocking him to the ground. File that under Instant Karma. And tell the monkey that Vince McMahon would be interested in signing him up for the WWE...
