We're FOOTBALL parents now!

I’m a bit bias, but my son Anthony is a GREAT BASEBALL player.   I think he’s a great athlete in general.    Now though, for the first time EVER, he’s a HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYER!   (GO GREENDALE PANTHERS)

Anthony’s been asking my wife and I to play football for the last 2+ years and our answer has always been “nah, you’re a baseball player buddy, focus on that” LOL!  Well, I admit that MOST of the reason for our answer was b/c he REALLY TRULY is a great baseball player and we didn’t want him getting HURT playing football…I also explained to him that playing high school football wasn’t anything like just getting together in the backyard with friends and throwing the ball around and that it’s ALOT of work, practice, sweat etc…

Well, he’s not backed down AT ALL and we just figured hey, he wants to do it, let him find out all of the hard work involved and see what happens!  The result:  HE’S RAN WITH IT and is excited to be doing it!  He’s already gotten hurt in camp, got whiplash, was out for a week and came back WITH MORE FIRE to do it!   We didn’t DOUBT he’d have the passion and drive to do it…we just worried he thought it was something that it’s not.  He’s showed us he’s ready for the challenge!

It’s been FUN to watch him learn something new…and he’ll get better and better as the practices and games begin!  My wife and I look forward to being a FOOTBALL Mom & Dad for the first time and just enjoying the ride!

In the end, it’s ALL about the experiences Anthony will have and the memories he’ll start making in high school that TRULY matter!

Thanks for reading!  Thanks for listening!  Just…THANKS!

Great visit from Mom-Mom!

My Mother-In-Law’s been in town for the last 10 days, visiting from Phoenix.   There are 2 reasons that Mom-Mom came to visit:  to see her Grandchildren  and …to see her grandchildren!  Seriously!  That’s perfectly fine, we KNOW she loves us too!  Wait, make that 3 reasons…our house is spotless now too…THANKS MOM!

I think we’ve shown Mom a great time during her visit.  Sarah and the kids took her to the Milwaukee County Zoo, then a pool day at Cool Waters and the last thing we did was Festa Italiana!  THAT was her favorite!

Festa Italiana was AMAZING!  We went on Friday night and HOLY RICEBALLS!  And lasagna sticks!  And zucchini sticks!  And eggplant sticks!  And calamari!  And CHOCOLATE CANNOLIS!  SOOOO many great foods to eat, music to hear, things and people to see…was a great experience!  Can’t wait for next year!

As always, THANK YOU for reading and for listening to 99.1 The Mix!  Hope you have a GREAT week!

4th Of July Weekend 2014...AWESOME!

4th Of July Weekend 2014 was one for the ages!  LOVED having my daughter and our adopted son Cameron (not really, but kinda) here for the fun!  Here’s how it went down:

Friday:  First Summerfest experience for the family and I and it didn’t disappoint!  Food, FUN, laughs, music and just a great time enjoying a MILWAUKEE SUMMER DAY…it FINALLY showed up!

Saturday:  Used bumpers and STILL got beat by a 3-year old, two 14-year olds, a 15-year old and my wife Sarah.  I’m NOT GOOD at bowling!

Sunday:  Spent the day in Lake Geneva and ya’ know…NO BIG DEAL… just drove a speedboat for the FIRST TIME EVER!   WHAT A RUSH!  Can’t wait to do it again!  Kids jumped off the boat and swam around for a bit and we just relaxed for a couple of hours…was PEACEFUL & AMAZING!

I hope you and yours had a GREAT holiday weekend as well!

As always, thanks so much for reading and THANK YOU for listening to 99.1 The Mix!

WHAT A WEEKEND!

If I had to pick JUST ONE WORD to describe this past weekend,   it’d be:  AMAZACRAZYAWESOME!   (I totally just made that word up)
Spent the weekend with the family at Key Lime Cove and WE HAD A BLAST!   Alyssa, Anthony, Ben and Cameron had the time of their lives on the water slides!  Sarah and I LITERALLY DID NOTHING on the lazy river, which I think is the idea when you’re on that LOL.

Embarassing moment alert:  I fell asleep on my tube and some random kid cruisin’ down the river decided he’d flip me over (that’s HARD to do)...that was a fun way to wake up!

It really was a GREAT family getaway…FUN & RELAXING!   Highly recommend!

As always, thank you for reading and thank you for listening to The Mix!

LIFE.IS.GOOD.

WHEW!  Now that the U.S./Germany game is over and the U.S. backed into the KNOCKOUT ROUND of the World Cup, I can write about how AWESOME the last few days have been and HOW MUCH FUN the next 2 weeks are gonna be!

On Tuesday, my daughter Alyssa came to visit for 2 weeks from NJ!  Yesterday, Neon Trees came by before their SUMMERFEST performance…then Jonathan Jackson from the hit show “Nashville” came to the radio station and did his thing for us.  Last night, we sat around the dinner table and played Apples To Apples.  FUN GAME!

This weekend, my son Anthony has a baseball tourney in Crystal Lake, IL and his games are on Saturday & Sunday.  Soooo, what are we gonna do IN BETWEEN?  Glad you asked!   Key Lime Cove for the ENTIRE WEEKEND and just a GREAT TIME as a FAMILY, TOGETHER!  Sorry, CAPS LOCK is broken LOL (not really)

What MORE could I ask for?  That’s right, not much.  I already have what I need…including YOU!  Thanks as always for listening,  thanks for reading this and most importantly, thanks for allowing me to be a part of your daily life!  Means SO much to me!

Have a GREAT WEEKEND!

Proud Papa!

My oldest son Anthony is 13, soon to be 14 on July 1st!   Another hard thing about leaving NJ for Milwaukee was having to pull Anthony, mid-year, from 8th grade.  ALL of his friends growing up were there…baseball teammates, there…his ENTIRE childhood, there!

I KNOW it wasn’t an easy thing for him to do.  Think about it...REALLY, I asked him to START ALL OVER!  6 months have now gone by…and how’s he doing?  HE'S KNOCKING IT OUT OF THE PARK!  AWESOME grades, he continues to make new friends, found a new travel baseball team and is LOVING Wisconsin life like the rest of us!   Last Friday, he graduated 8th grade from Greendale Middle School and I can’t believe it but: HE WILL BE A FRESHMAN next year at Greendale High School.  He’s also decided to try another sport and signed up for football!

I’d say that I’m surprised that Anthony took this challenge of picking up/leaving/starting all over and is just KICKING BUTT doing it, but that’s Anthony!  I didn’t think it’d turn out ANY.OTHER.WAY.

I’m SO PROUD of him and there aren’t enough words I could write in this blog to explain it properly!

Thank you so much for reading.  Thank you for making this an easy transition for ALL OF US!

The countdown Is ON...to June 24th!

I LOVE Milwaukee!  My FAMILY LOVES Milwaukee!  BUT…there was ONE REALLY HARD PART about leaving NJ to come here:  My now 15 year old daughter, Alyssa!  She lives in NJ and not a day goes by that we don’t chat on Facebook or text each other.  I’ve not seen her since Christmas, but THAT’S  about to change.  Tuesday June 24th can’t get here soon enough!  She’s coming to visit for TWO WEEKS and I CAN’T WAIT!

WE can’t wait to be a whole family again (EVEN IF it’s only for 2 weeks) and we’re gonna have some fun...already have a bunch planned!   My whole family and I are gonna get to EXPERIENCE SUMMERFEST for the 1st time together, we’ll do Lake Geneva, maybe even some Dells action…either way, just having Alyssa with us makes me HAPPY!

Thanks as always for reading…I certainly appreciate it!

Oh, and THANK YOU for listening to The Mix!

Lake Geneva...HOLY BEAUTIFUL!

Over the Memorial Day weekend, my family and I were in Crystal Lake, IL for my son Anthonys travel team, The Milwaukee Angels 13U tournament!   They ended up losing their 1st game on Sunday…which knocked them out!  SAD?  Yes!  However, it gave us a chance to spend some quality time together and DISCOVER places we’ve not seen yet.

By PURE ACCIDENT, we ended up in LAKE GENEVA!  OMG!  How BEAUTIFUL is this place!!!  We had a great dinner at Chuck’s Lakeshore Inn,  walked around for a bit and was in AWE of the scenery around us…beach filled, boats EVERYWHERE and that got me thinkin’…next time, we’re RENTING A BOAT!   I can do that right?  Even though I’ve never driven one before?  If not, gonna just take the boat tour J!

Bottom line:  we’re DEFINITELY going back to enjoy what Lake Geneva has to offer.  Oh, and THANK YOU SPRING FOR SHOWING UP!  FINALLY! (knock on wood)

Have a great weekend!

OMG! REALLY?

On May 16th,  I posted on FB that I’d been to Leon’s for the FIRST time!  People were AMAZED by that…ya’ know, since I’ve been here since December and my family since the end of February.  Well, I’m SAD (BUT ALSO GLAD) that it took this long to find it because:

A) We’d have been there every night (or every other, anyway)
B) See A!

Lesson learned…we’re gonna do more exploring for the great food Milwaukee and the surrounding areas have to offer.  PLEASE, feel free to share YOUR favorite places with me as well!  My family LOVES to eat J  We’re always down for finding great places to hang out and enjoy some great food and fun!

AS ALWAYS, THANKS SO MUCH for listening to The Mix!

Ain't No Strings on Me
This may be one of the weirdest movie mash-ups of all time. Perhaps proof positive that some people have too much time on their hands? Take a classic like The Wizard of Oz, and mix it up with Avengers: Age of Ultron, and what do you get? Avengers of Oz: Age of Tin Man, of course. It's pretty creepy and pretty funny all at the same time.

Why, Kanye, Why?
By now, you've probably heard that - despite 150,000 petition signers who begged for it not to happen - Kanye West headlined the Glastonbury Festival over the weekend. He got stage-stormed by a local comic - that was pretty cool, him getting a dose of his own medicine. But once the dust had settled from that, Kanye did something unforgiveable. He "performed" a cover of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." He hit every third note, which is about as many of the lyrics he got right. I'm sorry, it was atrocious. But don't take my word for it - check it out yourself. Don't worry, it's a short video...

Maybe You Should Stick with Footballs, Aaron
Olivia Munn posted a pretty cool video to Instagram on Sunday. It shows her working on her sword skills - which are pretty impressive - as she preps for a role in an upcoming X-Men movie. Behind her, Aaron Rodgers - her boyfriend and quarterback of the Green Bay Packers - works on his considerably less impressive stick-waving skills, trying to mimic Olivia's moves. It's pretty funny - and proof positive that Aaron's better off tossing a pigskin around than being trusted with a sword.     Learned some new tricks... Um, Donald, You're Fired!
Donald Trump is getting hit from all sides, but he really doesn't seem to care. Yesterday, the National Broadcasting Company issued a statement: "At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump." The Donald's been at the center of a political firestorm after making tremendously derogatory statements about Mexico and Mexicans in his presidential campaign kick-off speech. And his official statement on the end of his relationship with NBC?   "As of today, Donald J. Trump is no longer affiliated with NBC. Mr. Trump stands by his statements on illegal immigration, which are accurate. NBC is weak, and like everybody else is trying to be politically correct--- that is why our country is in serious trouble." So, no more wondering who's getting fired next on The Apprentice - since the guy who does the firing has been fired.   (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); WATCH: NBC says it's cutting ties with Donald Trump, but Trump says he's also ending his relationship with NBC. Wait! The Peacock is Gay?
We talked yesterday about all the brands that are going with rainbow-branding in the wake of the Supreme Court's ruling on marriage equality. Here's something no one expected. A guy in Little Rock took to Facebook to lambaste KARK-TV - an NBC affiliate - for changing the station's logo "with the colors of gays." He called it a "disgrace" and vowed to watch the ABC affiliate from that point on. The NBC peacock has been the network's symbol since they went to "living color" techology - which dates back to the late 50s. Wondering What's Going on in Greece?
The tiny island country of Greece - not insignificant, as it is the birthplace of Western Civilization - is in a real financial bind right now. The banks are closed to prevent a run on their money, and people are limited to withdrawing the equivalent of $67 or so a day from their ATMs. The banks will stay closed until next week, and the people of Greece will be voting over the weekend to see if they'll stay in the European Union or not. A mess. Want to know what's going on? Here's a 60-second summation, courtesy of CBSN, the official site of CBS News...     (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); With Greece on the brink of default, and possibly leaving the eurozone, what does it mean for the Greeks, Europe and the global economy? Katy Perry versus The Nuns
No, it's not a lip sync battle of any kind. It's an honest to servant-of-God fight between Katy Perry and two Los Angeles nuns. Here's the deal. The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary convent is for sale. It sits on top of a hill with a nice view of downtown LA and the San Gabriel mountains. The nuns have offered to sell it to a restaurateur for $15.5 million. Only problem: the archbishop of LA is trying to sell it to Katy Perry for $14.5 million. Now, there's a huge argument about who has the right to sell the convent - the nuns who have called it home, or the archdiocese in which it sits. Katy tried to negotiate directly with the nuns. One of them, Sister Rita Callanan, was quoted by The Los Angeles Times. "Well, I found Katy Perry and I found her videos and…if it's all right to say, I wasn't happy with any of it," The matter is now being handled legally. But Katy Perry, beware. You may have to answer to a higher court...

Nia Vardalos is hard at work on the sequel to My Big Fat Greek Wedding. You can tell. Look at the on-set pic she posted to Instagram a few days ago. She "managed" to catch co-star John Corbett shirtless. However did that happen? The film's set for release in March of 2016. Right now, the description on IMDb is pretty tame: "The continuing adventures of the Portokalos family. A follow-up to the 2002 comedy, 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding.'" "... In the Hands of a Clown"
It hasn't been a good week to be Donald Trump. It seems like everyone knows that but him. When he kicked off his presidential campaign last week, he had some pretty nasty things to say about Mexico - the country and its people. As a result, Univision - the biggest Spanish-language broadcaster in the United States - announced that it will not be associated with the Miss Universe Pageant, as The Donald is part owner. And Christian de la Fuente, who was scheduled to be one of the pageant's hosts, decided to step away from it, but not before leveling a retaliatory attack at The Donald first. Check it out... ... And He'll Never Do That Again
How's this for justice? A guy in Brazil parked his car illegally in a handicapped spot. So while he was wherever doing whatever, some folks decided that maybe his getting a ticket wouldn't be enough. So they completely covered his car in something blue. The same color blue you'll find in your typical handicapped parking sign. They even managed to put a couple of wheelchair stick figures on the car. It's hard to tell from the video exactly what it was, but they covered every inch of it - tires to roof, hood to trunk, including all the windows. It looks like fondant - that hard, crumbly wedding cake frosting - but it could be some sort of paper too. What do you think? Lesson learned? You Never Know Who Might Be Stowing Away
This could be one of the funniest videos I've seen in a long time. A couple in New Guinea took a glider up for a spin, and everything was going great until they realized that a cat had somehow found its way into the glider's wing. They brought the aircraft back for a landing - it took a minute or two - with the cat hanging on for dear life the whole time. The cat appears in the upper right corner of the screen at about 20 seconds in. And check out its face when the glider finally lands. No animals were hurt in the making of this video, and that's what makes it okay to laugh.

Patrick's character was always dapperly-dressed, in a bowler and a suit, carrying an umbrella - which of course hid a sword in it. His co-star for several years was Diana Rigg, playing Mrs. Peel. Game of Thrones fans know Diana these days as Olenna Tyrell. You'll get a sense of Patrick's acting style from the opening and closing credits of The Avengers. Check out the video,,,

And You Thought the Cleansing Part Was Bad...
A colonoscopy patient in Vienna, Virginia accidentally recorded his procedure back in 2013. He had set up the recorder on his phone to capture his doctor's post-procedure instructions, and forgot to turn it off. When he played it back, he realized that the doctor, the anesthesiologist and a medical assistant were talking smack about him the whole time he was sedated. They had some pretty nasty things to say about the poor guy. When he heard them all, he filed a lawsuit for medical malpractice and defamation. When you hear the recording, you'll understand why a jury recently awarded the unnamed patient $500,000.

Carnac the Magnificent Goes High Tech
Back when The Tonight Show was piloted by Johnny Carson, he would occasionally perform as Carnac the Magnificent. Billed as a great visitor from the east, Carnac was able to use his mystical powers to divine the answer to a question that was sealed inside an envelope that he held to his forehead. Watch this clip from 1974 for a taste...   On Wednesday night, Jimmy Fallon trotted out a bit he called "Brainstorm" - where he hooked up his brain with Arnold Schwarzenegger's brain, and provided the question to Arnold's answer. Same bit, done differently. And I have to say, I think the original is better. How about you? (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Brainstorm with Arnold Schwarzenegger Jimmy and Arnold Schwarzenegger link their brains for a Tonight Show "Brainstorm." "Listen, You're in My House..."
President Obama got heckled at a White House press conference yesterday afternoon. It's not quite clear what the heckler was yelling, but the crowd turned on the heckler pretty quickly. The President handled the situation well, but the heckler wouldn't stop. So, the heckler was removed, and the press conference went on. It's pretty neat how the President took it all in stride... (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); WATCH: President Obama smacks down heckler at LGBT pride event. http://nbcnews.to/1JjMFeQ "As a general rule, I am just fine with a few hecklers, but not when I'm up in the [White] House. My attitude is, if you're eating the hors d'oeuvres..." Posted by NBC News on Wednesday, June 24, 2015

Keep Your Eye on the Ball!
We've seen plenty of fans in the stands catch a baseball barehanded, right? And plenty of one-handed barehanded catches, right? How about a one-handed barehanded feeding-the-baby-with-the-other-hand catches? Not so many of those - if any of those But here's one. A fan watching the Chicago Cubs play the Los Angeles Dodgers barehanded a pop-up to the right field side while he was bottle-feeding a baby. And the catch prevented Adrian Gonzalez of the Dodgers from making the play. Fan interference was called, but really, who cares? Check out the catch!

Let's Go to Middle Earth
It's Throwback Thursday Time. This video's about a month old, but it shows a pretty amazing impressionist named Jamie Costa. He's playing Gandalf, recruiting followers to the cause. But he can only muster up Robin Williams (spot-on impression), George W. Bush (a decent impression) and Matthew McConaughey (excellent impression). What's amazing is not only what he can do with his voice, but also with his face. Check it out.
