We're FOOTBALL parents now!

I’m a bit bias, but my son Anthony is a GREAT BASEBALL player.   I think he’s a great athlete in general.    Now though, for the first time EVER, he’s a HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYER!   (GO GREENDALE PANTHERS)

Anthony’s been asking my wife and I to play football for the last 2+ years and our answer has always been “nah, you’re a baseball player buddy, focus on that” LOL!  Well, I admit that MOST of the reason for our answer was b/c he REALLY TRULY is a great baseball player and we didn’t want him getting HURT playing football…I also explained to him that playing high school football wasn’t anything like just getting together in the backyard with friends and throwing the ball around and that it’s ALOT of work, practice, sweat etc…

Well, he’s not backed down AT ALL and we just figured hey, he wants to do it, let him find out all of the hard work involved and see what happens!  The result:  HE’S RAN WITH IT and is excited to be doing it!  He’s already gotten hurt in camp, got whiplash, was out for a week and came back WITH MORE FIRE to do it!   We didn’t DOUBT he’d have the passion and drive to do it…we just worried he thought it was something that it’s not.  He’s showed us he’s ready for the challenge!

It’s been FUN to watch him learn something new…and he’ll get better and better as the practices and games begin!  My wife and I look forward to being a FOOTBALL Mom & Dad for the first time and just enjoying the ride!

In the end, it’s ALL about the experiences Anthony will have and the memories he’ll start making in high school that TRULY matter!

Thanks for reading!  Thanks for listening!  Just…THANKS!

Great visit from Mom-Mom!

My Mother-In-Law’s been in town for the last 10 days, visiting from Phoenix.   There are 2 reasons that Mom-Mom came to visit:  to see her Grandchildren  and …to see her grandchildren!  Seriously!  That’s perfectly fine, we KNOW she loves us too!  Wait, make that 3 reasons…our house is spotless now too…THANKS MOM!

I think we’ve shown Mom a great time during her visit.  Sarah and the kids took her to the Milwaukee County Zoo, then a pool day at Cool Waters and the last thing we did was Festa Italiana!  THAT was her favorite!

Festa Italiana was AMAZING!  We went on Friday night and HOLY RICEBALLS!  And lasagna sticks!  And zucchini sticks!  And eggplant sticks!  And calamari!  And CHOCOLATE CANNOLIS!  SOOOO many great foods to eat, music to hear, things and people to see…was a great experience!  Can’t wait for next year!

As always, THANK YOU for reading and for listening to 99.1 The Mix!  Hope you have a GREAT week!

4th Of July Weekend 2014...AWESOME!

4th Of July Weekend 2014 was one for the ages!  LOVED having my daughter and our adopted son Cameron (not really, but kinda) here for the fun!  Here’s how it went down:

Friday:  First Summerfest experience for the family and I and it didn’t disappoint!  Food, FUN, laughs, music and just a great time enjoying a MILWAUKEE SUMMER DAY…it FINALLY showed up!

Saturday:  Used bumpers and STILL got beat by a 3-year old, two 14-year olds, a 15-year old and my wife Sarah.  I’m NOT GOOD at bowling!

Sunday:  Spent the day in Lake Geneva and ya’ know…NO BIG DEAL… just drove a speedboat for the FIRST TIME EVER!   WHAT A RUSH!  Can’t wait to do it again!  Kids jumped off the boat and swam around for a bit and we just relaxed for a couple of hours…was PEACEFUL & AMAZING!

I hope you and yours had a GREAT holiday weekend as well!

As always, thanks so much for reading and THANK YOU for listening to 99.1 The Mix!

WHAT A WEEKEND!

If I had to pick JUST ONE WORD to describe this past weekend,   it’d be:  AMAZACRAZYAWESOME!   (I totally just made that word up)
Spent the weekend with the family at Key Lime Cove and WE HAD A BLAST!   Alyssa, Anthony, Ben and Cameron had the time of their lives on the water slides!  Sarah and I LITERALLY DID NOTHING on the lazy river, which I think is the idea when you’re on that LOL.

Embarassing moment alert:  I fell asleep on my tube and some random kid cruisin’ down the river decided he’d flip me over (that’s HARD to do)...that was a fun way to wake up!

It really was a GREAT family getaway…FUN & RELAXING!   Highly recommend!

As always, thank you for reading and thank you for listening to The Mix!

LIFE.IS.GOOD.

WHEW!  Now that the U.S./Germany game is over and the U.S. backed into the KNOCKOUT ROUND of the World Cup, I can write about how AWESOME the last few days have been and HOW MUCH FUN the next 2 weeks are gonna be!

On Tuesday, my daughter Alyssa came to visit for 2 weeks from NJ!  Yesterday, Neon Trees came by before their SUMMERFEST performance…then Jonathan Jackson from the hit show “Nashville” came to the radio station and did his thing for us.  Last night, we sat around the dinner table and played Apples To Apples.  FUN GAME!

This weekend, my son Anthony has a baseball tourney in Crystal Lake, IL and his games are on Saturday & Sunday.  Soooo, what are we gonna do IN BETWEEN?  Glad you asked!   Key Lime Cove for the ENTIRE WEEKEND and just a GREAT TIME as a FAMILY, TOGETHER!  Sorry, CAPS LOCK is broken LOL (not really)

What MORE could I ask for?  That’s right, not much.  I already have what I need…including YOU!  Thanks as always for listening,  thanks for reading this and most importantly, thanks for allowing me to be a part of your daily life!  Means SO much to me!

Have a GREAT WEEKEND!

Proud Papa!

My oldest son Anthony is 13, soon to be 14 on July 1st!   Another hard thing about leaving NJ for Milwaukee was having to pull Anthony, mid-year, from 8th grade.  ALL of his friends growing up were there…baseball teammates, there…his ENTIRE childhood, there!

I KNOW it wasn’t an easy thing for him to do.  Think about it...REALLY, I asked him to START ALL OVER!  6 months have now gone by…and how’s he doing?  HE'S KNOCKING IT OUT OF THE PARK!  AWESOME grades, he continues to make new friends, found a new travel baseball team and is LOVING Wisconsin life like the rest of us!   Last Friday, he graduated 8th grade from Greendale Middle School and I can’t believe it but: HE WILL BE A FRESHMAN next year at Greendale High School.  He’s also decided to try another sport and signed up for football!

I’d say that I’m surprised that Anthony took this challenge of picking up/leaving/starting all over and is just KICKING BUTT doing it, but that’s Anthony!  I didn’t think it’d turn out ANY.OTHER.WAY.

I’m SO PROUD of him and there aren’t enough words I could write in this blog to explain it properly!

Thank you so much for reading.  Thank you for making this an easy transition for ALL OF US!

The countdown Is ON...to June 24th!

I LOVE Milwaukee!  My FAMILY LOVES Milwaukee!  BUT…there was ONE REALLY HARD PART about leaving NJ to come here:  My now 15 year old daughter, Alyssa!  She lives in NJ and not a day goes by that we don’t chat on Facebook or text each other.  I’ve not seen her since Christmas, but THAT’S  about to change.  Tuesday June 24th can’t get here soon enough!  She’s coming to visit for TWO WEEKS and I CAN’T WAIT!

WE can’t wait to be a whole family again (EVEN IF it’s only for 2 weeks) and we’re gonna have some fun...already have a bunch planned!   My whole family and I are gonna get to EXPERIENCE SUMMERFEST for the 1st time together, we’ll do Lake Geneva, maybe even some Dells action…either way, just having Alyssa with us makes me HAPPY!

Thanks as always for reading…I certainly appreciate it!

Oh, and THANK YOU for listening to The Mix!

Lake Geneva...HOLY BEAUTIFUL!

Over the Memorial Day weekend, my family and I were in Crystal Lake, IL for my son Anthonys travel team, The Milwaukee Angels 13U tournament!   They ended up losing their 1st game on Sunday…which knocked them out!  SAD?  Yes!  However, it gave us a chance to spend some quality time together and DISCOVER places we’ve not seen yet.

By PURE ACCIDENT, we ended up in LAKE GENEVA!  OMG!  How BEAUTIFUL is this place!!!  We had a great dinner at Chuck’s Lakeshore Inn,  walked around for a bit and was in AWE of the scenery around us…beach filled, boats EVERYWHERE and that got me thinkin’…next time, we’re RENTING A BOAT!   I can do that right?  Even though I’ve never driven one before?  If not, gonna just take the boat tour J!

Bottom line:  we’re DEFINITELY going back to enjoy what Lake Geneva has to offer.  Oh, and THANK YOU SPRING FOR SHOWING UP!  FINALLY! (knock on wood)

Have a great weekend!

OMG! REALLY?

On May 16th,  I posted on FB that I’d been to Leon’s for the FIRST time!  People were AMAZED by that…ya’ know, since I’ve been here since December and my family since the end of February.  Well, I’m SAD (BUT ALSO GLAD) that it took this long to find it because:

A) We’d have been there every night (or every other, anyway)
B) See A!

Lesson learned…we’re gonna do more exploring for the great food Milwaukee and the surrounding areas have to offer.  PLEASE, feel free to share YOUR favorite places with me as well!  My family LOVES to eat J  We’re always down for finding great places to hang out and enjoy some great food and fun!

AS ALWAYS, THANKS SO MUCH for listening to The Mix!

President Kanye?
Oh yes he did. At the VMA's last night, Kanye West announced - after a four-hour speech (okay, maybe it wasn't that long, but it sure felt like it was!) - that he was running for president in 2020. Sadly, he means President of the United States. He dropped the mic right after saying that and walked off stage to a cheering crowd. It's not clear whether they were cheering the announcement, or the fact that he was finally done talking. I'm thinking the latter...

Bitch Slap at the VMA Corral
You never know what you're going to get when Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus are in the same room. What you got last night at the VMAs was fireworks! Nicki was on stage, accepting her award for "Anaconda" as Best Hip Hop Video. She thanked everyone who made it possible, the way you do at awards shows. And then she laid into Miley Cyrus, who had some particulary unflattering things to say about Nicki in a previous interview. Miley's response was pretty much "that's the way it goes in this industry." And that just made Nicki madder. Watch the video...

Yup, Almost Naked
Miley Cyrus told a guy on the street during a fake interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week that she would be hosting MTV's Video Music Awards in the nude. And judging from the stuff done leading up to the show itself, it looks like she came pretty close to making that promise a reality. I don't know. Maybe it's just bad luck they scheduled the VMA's on Miley's laundry day? OMG! You 2?
So, Amber Rose and Blac Chyna showed up at MTV's Video Music Awards last night wearing the same outfit. I mean, seriously, they couldn't have checked in with each other? Okay, turn out, they did. This was a coordinated effort. Same material, different dresses, both sporting words and phrases that people - Amber and Blac would call them "haters" - have used when describing them. "Whore," "Stripper," "Bitch," "Gold Digger" - things like that. Some are calling it a blow for feminism. Others are thinking they were mugged by a graffiti artist. What do you think?   #VMAs: So is this a feminist statement on @Blacchyna & @DaRealAmberRose or seriously not? pic.twitter.com/ClkdO6ZHYL — Bonnie Fuller (@BonnieFuller) August 31, 2015

Trainwreck, Live!
You're already having a blast at Billy Joel's concert at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Imagine how much more fun it would be if Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer jumped onto Billy's piano and started dancing? That's exactly what happened Thursday night. They danced to "Uptown Girl," something that Amy did at the end of Trainwreck, dancing with the New York Knicks cheerleaders. One of these days, I'll get around to seeing that movie. Meanwhile, I've got this.

Can Serena Grand Slam It?
The US Open in tennis gets underway today, and all eyes are on Serena Williams. She's already won the Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon this year. She's the number one seed at the US Open, and if she wins this tournament, she'll pull off a Grand Slam, making her the first woman to achieve that since Steffi Graf did it in 1988. It would be fun to see her do it, don't you think? To get you in the spirit, check out this video that the folks at American Express put together to celebrate the US Open. They call it Rally on the River. It involves tennis, but other than that, I have no idea what it's about. It is fun to watch, though, don't you think?

"I Wanna Be Trump's Running Mate"
The folks at TMZ Sports caught up with currently-disgraced former WWE champion Hulk Hogan on the streets of New York and asked him a very important question. Who among the list of presidential possibilities would he like to face inside a wrestling ring? Hulk flipped that question over and answered one of his own. He wants to be Donald Trump's running mate. It's not clear if he was serious or just goofing around. Which so far has been the tone of a lot of presidential campaigns, so the Hulkster could fit right in.

Yeah, That's Not a Dolphin
Seems like this has been the Summer of the Shark. Another shark attack to report - no one hurt, so no worries there. A woman was surfing in Morro Bay, north of Santa Barbara in California, when she looked into the water under her board and spotted a gray shadow. She thought it was a dolphin - until it started coming at her. Turns out it was a six-foot Great White, and it took a pretty good-sized chunk out of her board as she swam away. Watch the story from a local news affiliate.  I'm pretty sure I'd take that as a sign to stay out of the water for a while. And by "for a while," I mean "forever."

"I Think She Lost Her Mind in the Hollywood Madness"
So, this is interesting. The other night, on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Miley Cyrus threw on a wig, big glasses and a business suit, and pretended to be a reporter from Australia. Knock Me Over With a Feather
When the Ashley Madison scandal broke, a lot of people looked to Noel Biderman, the company's CEO who co-founded the "cheating" site with his wife, for answers. In an interview that broke just this past weekend in which he was referred to as the King of Infidelity, he said that he and his wife did not practice the company motto: "Life is short. Have an affair." (The folks at Huffington Post Canada have the interview, and a video about it.) In a 2013 interview, Amanda Biderman had this to say about what would happen if Noel cheated on her: "I would be devastated if (Noel) did it to me. But I would not blame a website. Ashley Madison is not creating cheaters. It is servicing a need that is there, that exists. And unfortunately, it exists. It's sad.'' Well, guess whose emails got leaked as part of the data breach and have now been made public? And guess who's allegedly been having affairs? None other than the CEO himself. No More Anchor Babies!
Anchor babies. It's a term that's been tossed around like a hot potato early in this presidential season, especially among the Republican candidates. It's the way they've been describing children born in this country to illegal immigrants. Constitutionally, that grants the children automatic US citizenship, providing an "anchor" to which the parents will cling in hopes of being allowed to stay here. Many Republicans say that has to stop, no matter what the Constitution says. Finally, the folks at Funny or Die have found a way to explain why that should happen. And not one moment too early...   America Under Attack: Anchor Babies from Funny Or Die

Betty White's Next TV Gig
Betty White could well be the hottest actress on TV right now. She's done all sorts of guest spots on all sorts of shows, and she just wrapped up a six-season run of Hot in Cleveland on TV Land. Now, she'll be guest starring on Fox's long-running Bones as a squintern. Don't worry, I had to look it up too. Squintern is the word Booth (David Boreanaz) uses to describe the people who assist Doctor Brennan (Emily Deschanel) in the lab. The folks at TV Line report that Betty White will play Dr. Beth Mayer,  an accomplished, sharp as a tack squintern who is brought in to assist in a murder linked to fantasy football — which just happens to be one of her many areas of expertise. With a half century of work under her belt, Dr. Mayer is considered the world’s most experienced forensic anthropologist..." You'll have to wait until the end of October for Betty to make her appearance. And no, they won't be renaming the series Old Bones. That would be wrong. Meanwhile, here's the incredibly sappy promo Fox created for the show's upcoming season...

Les Miserables = Less Miserable
You don't have to be a fan of Les Miserables - either the Broadway show or the movie - to appreciate this flash mob. The West Des Moines School District (in Iowa, of course) was holding its district-wide welcome to school meeting for teachers. And to put a little zest into the day, some teachers put together a teaching-oriented parody of one of the show's biggest ensemble pieces, "One Day More." At first, no one knew what was happening. But as more and more teachers stood up to sing their parts and join the others on stage, the rest of the audience really got into it. When it was done - and done quite well - the performers earned a standing ovation.

Ashley Madison, the TV Show?
One of the biggest data breaches going these days is the one involving AshleyMadison.com. That's the site where you can sign up and arrange an extra-marital affair if you're so inclined. Like they say, "Life is short. Have an affair." Now, a team of Hollywood producers has revealed they're working on a fictionalized show based on the website, about a single mom who launches the site as a way to make ends meet. Why now and why this, you wonder? “Anytime 30 million people are doing anything, it becomes worthy of a real discussion,” one of the producers told US Weekly. So, let's see if this ever makes it to air. The show is tentatively titled Thank You Ashley Madison. Meanwhile, the folks at Entertainment Tonight talked about what the breached data shows about the least- and most-faithful states in the USA. You might be surprised!

Kim's Biggest Problem

The Donald told him to sit down, as he hadn't been called. No Sex in the City for Sarah Jessica Parker?
So, here's an interesting revelation. Originally, Sarah Jessica Parker did not want to play Carrie Bradshaw in Sex in the City. She reluctantly filmed the pilot and forgot about it. And when she found out the series had been picked up a few months later, she begged HBO to let her out of her contract. The story comes from a Broadway actor who recently spent some time doing a show with SJP and hubby Matthew Broderick in Massachusetts. HBO prevailed, as we know. But imagine if they hadn't. It's hard to picture anyone else playing that role. Of course, that's always difficult in retrospect. I don't think it would have been the same, do you?
