We're FOOTBALL parents now!

I’m a bit bias, but my son Anthony is a GREAT BASEBALL player.   I think he’s a great athlete in general.    Now though, for the first time EVER, he’s a HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYER!   (GO GREENDALE PANTHERS)

Anthony’s been asking my wife and I to play football for the last 2+ years and our answer has always been “nah, you’re a baseball player buddy, focus on that” LOL!  Well, I admit that MOST of the reason for our answer was b/c he REALLY TRULY is a great baseball player and we didn’t want him getting HURT playing football…I also explained to him that playing high school football wasn’t anything like just getting together in the backyard with friends and throwing the ball around and that it’s ALOT of work, practice, sweat etc…

Well, he’s not backed down AT ALL and we just figured hey, he wants to do it, let him find out all of the hard work involved and see what happens!  The result:  HE’S RAN WITH IT and is excited to be doing it!  He’s already gotten hurt in camp, got whiplash, was out for a week and came back WITH MORE FIRE to do it!   We didn’t DOUBT he’d have the passion and drive to do it…we just worried he thought it was something that it’s not.  He’s showed us he’s ready for the challenge!

It’s been FUN to watch him learn something new…and he’ll get better and better as the practices and games begin!  My wife and I look forward to being a FOOTBALL Mom & Dad for the first time and just enjoying the ride!

In the end, it’s ALL about the experiences Anthony will have and the memories he’ll start making in high school that TRULY matter!

Thanks for reading!  Thanks for listening!  Just…THANKS!

Great visit from Mom-Mom!

My Mother-In-Law’s been in town for the last 10 days, visiting from Phoenix.   There are 2 reasons that Mom-Mom came to visit:  to see her Grandchildren  and …to see her grandchildren!  Seriously!  That’s perfectly fine, we KNOW she loves us too!  Wait, make that 3 reasons…our house is spotless now too…THANKS MOM!

I think we’ve shown Mom a great time during her visit.  Sarah and the kids took her to the Milwaukee County Zoo, then a pool day at Cool Waters and the last thing we did was Festa Italiana!  THAT was her favorite!

Festa Italiana was AMAZING!  We went on Friday night and HOLY RICEBALLS!  And lasagna sticks!  And zucchini sticks!  And eggplant sticks!  And calamari!  And CHOCOLATE CANNOLIS!  SOOOO many great foods to eat, music to hear, things and people to see…was a great experience!  Can’t wait for next year!

As always, THANK YOU for reading and for listening to 99.1 The Mix!  Hope you have a GREAT week!

4th Of July Weekend 2014...AWESOME!

4th Of July Weekend 2014 was one for the ages!  LOVED having my daughter and our adopted son Cameron (not really, but kinda) here for the fun!  Here’s how it went down:

Friday:  First Summerfest experience for the family and I and it didn’t disappoint!  Food, FUN, laughs, music and just a great time enjoying a MILWAUKEE SUMMER DAY…it FINALLY showed up!

Saturday:  Used bumpers and STILL got beat by a 3-year old, two 14-year olds, a 15-year old and my wife Sarah.  I’m NOT GOOD at bowling!

Sunday:  Spent the day in Lake Geneva and ya’ know…NO BIG DEAL… just drove a speedboat for the FIRST TIME EVER!   WHAT A RUSH!  Can’t wait to do it again!  Kids jumped off the boat and swam around for a bit and we just relaxed for a couple of hours…was PEACEFUL & AMAZING!

I hope you and yours had a GREAT holiday weekend as well!

As always, thanks so much for reading and THANK YOU for listening to 99.1 The Mix!

WHAT A WEEKEND!

If I had to pick JUST ONE WORD to describe this past weekend,   it’d be:  AMAZACRAZYAWESOME!   (I totally just made that word up)
Spent the weekend with the family at Key Lime Cove and WE HAD A BLAST!   Alyssa, Anthony, Ben and Cameron had the time of their lives on the water slides!  Sarah and I LITERALLY DID NOTHING on the lazy river, which I think is the idea when you’re on that LOL.

Embarassing moment alert:  I fell asleep on my tube and some random kid cruisin’ down the river decided he’d flip me over (that’s HARD to do)...that was a fun way to wake up!

It really was a GREAT family getaway…FUN & RELAXING!   Highly recommend!

As always, thank you for reading and thank you for listening to The Mix!

LIFE.IS.GOOD.

WHEW!  Now that the U.S./Germany game is over and the U.S. backed into the KNOCKOUT ROUND of the World Cup, I can write about how AWESOME the last few days have been and HOW MUCH FUN the next 2 weeks are gonna be!

On Tuesday, my daughter Alyssa came to visit for 2 weeks from NJ!  Yesterday, Neon Trees came by before their SUMMERFEST performance…then Jonathan Jackson from the hit show “Nashville” came to the radio station and did his thing for us.  Last night, we sat around the dinner table and played Apples To Apples.  FUN GAME!

This weekend, my son Anthony has a baseball tourney in Crystal Lake, IL and his games are on Saturday & Sunday.  Soooo, what are we gonna do IN BETWEEN?  Glad you asked!   Key Lime Cove for the ENTIRE WEEKEND and just a GREAT TIME as a FAMILY, TOGETHER!  Sorry, CAPS LOCK is broken LOL (not really)

What MORE could I ask for?  That’s right, not much.  I already have what I need…including YOU!  Thanks as always for listening,  thanks for reading this and most importantly, thanks for allowing me to be a part of your daily life!  Means SO much to me!

Have a GREAT WEEKEND!

Proud Papa!

My oldest son Anthony is 13, soon to be 14 on July 1st!   Another hard thing about leaving NJ for Milwaukee was having to pull Anthony, mid-year, from 8th grade.  ALL of his friends growing up were there…baseball teammates, there…his ENTIRE childhood, there!

I KNOW it wasn’t an easy thing for him to do.  Think about it...REALLY, I asked him to START ALL OVER!  6 months have now gone by…and how’s he doing?  HE'S KNOCKING IT OUT OF THE PARK!  AWESOME grades, he continues to make new friends, found a new travel baseball team and is LOVING Wisconsin life like the rest of us!   Last Friday, he graduated 8th grade from Greendale Middle School and I can’t believe it but: HE WILL BE A FRESHMAN next year at Greendale High School.  He’s also decided to try another sport and signed up for football!

I’d say that I’m surprised that Anthony took this challenge of picking up/leaving/starting all over and is just KICKING BUTT doing it, but that’s Anthony!  I didn’t think it’d turn out ANY.OTHER.WAY.

I’m SO PROUD of him and there aren’t enough words I could write in this blog to explain it properly!

Thank you so much for reading.  Thank you for making this an easy transition for ALL OF US!

The countdown Is ON...to June 24th!

I LOVE Milwaukee!  My FAMILY LOVES Milwaukee!  BUT…there was ONE REALLY HARD PART about leaving NJ to come here:  My now 15 year old daughter, Alyssa!  She lives in NJ and not a day goes by that we don’t chat on Facebook or text each other.  I’ve not seen her since Christmas, but THAT’S  about to change.  Tuesday June 24th can’t get here soon enough!  She’s coming to visit for TWO WEEKS and I CAN’T WAIT!

WE can’t wait to be a whole family again (EVEN IF it’s only for 2 weeks) and we’re gonna have some fun...already have a bunch planned!   My whole family and I are gonna get to EXPERIENCE SUMMERFEST for the 1st time together, we’ll do Lake Geneva, maybe even some Dells action…either way, just having Alyssa with us makes me HAPPY!

Thanks as always for reading…I certainly appreciate it!

Oh, and THANK YOU for listening to The Mix!

Lake Geneva...HOLY BEAUTIFUL!

Over the Memorial Day weekend, my family and I were in Crystal Lake, IL for my son Anthonys travel team, The Milwaukee Angels 13U tournament!   They ended up losing their 1st game on Sunday…which knocked them out!  SAD?  Yes!  However, it gave us a chance to spend some quality time together and DISCOVER places we’ve not seen yet.

By PURE ACCIDENT, we ended up in LAKE GENEVA!  OMG!  How BEAUTIFUL is this place!!!  We had a great dinner at Chuck’s Lakeshore Inn,  walked around for a bit and was in AWE of the scenery around us…beach filled, boats EVERYWHERE and that got me thinkin’…next time, we’re RENTING A BOAT!   I can do that right?  Even though I’ve never driven one before?  If not, gonna just take the boat tour J!

Bottom line:  we’re DEFINITELY going back to enjoy what Lake Geneva has to offer.  Oh, and THANK YOU SPRING FOR SHOWING UP!  FINALLY! (knock on wood)

Have a great weekend!

OMG! REALLY?

On May 16th,  I posted on FB that I’d been to Leon’s for the FIRST time!  People were AMAZED by that…ya’ know, since I’ve been here since December and my family since the end of February.  Well, I’m SAD (BUT ALSO GLAD) that it took this long to find it because:

A) We’d have been there every night (or every other, anyway)
B) See A!

Lesson learned…we’re gonna do more exploring for the great food Milwaukee and the surrounding areas have to offer.  PLEASE, feel free to share YOUR favorite places with me as well!  My family LOVES to eat J  We’re always down for finding great places to hang out and enjoy some great food and fun!

AS ALWAYS, THANKS SO MUCH for listening to The Mix!

Miley Pastes Two on for Joan Jett
People wondered why Miley Cyrus was asked to induct Joan Jett into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Sunday night. Afterwards, they were just wondering what happened to the rest of her top. In typical outlandish Miley fashion, she wore a top with the breast areas removed - maybe designed to be missing, who knows. And to cover up her sensitive areas, a pair of pink heart-shaped pasties with a J on them. J J - for Joan Jett, get it? Here's a full recap of the Miley Joan moments.

Tidal Wave?
Jay Z's new streaming music service Tidal launched about a month ago. Last week, they threw the company's chief executive officer overboard - one of 25 people laid off. After a month. The official word is that the company is "streamlining resources to ensure talent is maximized to enhance the customer experience." A "handful of positions" were eliminated, allowing the company to refocus on departments that need support and to "cut redundancies." Word is that Jay Z and other of the service's top names have been personally calling subscribers to thank them. That doesn't sound desperate at all...

Tony Romo Continues to Struggle at Home
Bad enough that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo struggles year after year under center for America's Team. On Sunday, he showed up at the Academy of Country Music Awards show to introduce Dierks Bentley. But before he got to that, he had to do a little schtick with hosts Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan. Watch the video, and tell me you wish you hadn't. The crowd loved the ball jokes, deflated and otherwise, which just proves that the beer was flowing in Dallas Sunday night...

Holy Parody, Batman!
You knew it would happen. Following the less-than-impressive drop of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer over the weekend, you knew that folks would start having their fun with it. This one happened sooner than I thought it would though. An enterprising YouTuber took the audio of the real trailer, and mashed it up with video from the original Superman movie starring Christopher Reeve and the old Batman TV series starring Adam West. And it is funny. Super funny.

Kermit's Cousin?
Scientists have found a new species of frog in Costa Rica: the Glass Frog. It's an amazing little amphibian, with a translucent belly that allows one to see its internal organs. Of course, folks in the mainstream media have to dumb it down, so what does this new frog resemble. Why Kermit, the Muppet frog, of course. And leave it to Matt Lauer to put the icing on the dumb-down cake: "How convenient to be able to see all your organs, you know what's missing..."

But Can She Sing Country?
The Academy of Country Music Awards were presented in Dallas last night at the AT&T Stadium. So many great performances. But this one had me shaking my head a little. Amazing Baseball Improvisation
Here's something you don't see every day. Better yet, here's something you hardly ever see. Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester fielded a line drive back to him, and the ball got caught in the webbing of his glove. Rather than fight with it, he took the glove off and tossed it and the ball to the first baseman. The first baseman dropped his own mitt, caught Lester's, never dropped the ball, and the runner was out. Check it out.

Let It Go, Senator!
This is sort of cool - pun unintended. Senator Pat Roberts was questioning a witness at a Senate hearing on Thursday, and in the middle of the testimony, his cell phone rang. His ringtone? "Let It Go," from Disney's Frozen. The senator earned a few chuckles as he turned off the phone and told the witness to just "let it go." Funny stuff... Check out the video, and the senator's follow-up tweet.     Somebody had to tell the Obama Administration to "Let it go." #forthegrandkids — Pat Roberts (@SenPatRoberts) April 16, 2015

Super Disappointing?
There's been a lot of buzz about the Batman v Superman movie, especially centered on Ben Affleck's casting as the Dark Knight. But if the recently leaked and then released trailer for the movie is any indication, maybe Ben Affleck's not a problem. I've watched the trailer a half-dozen times, hoping to get as excited about it as with others released recently for other films. But I can't. It looks dark and disturbing. Isn't the job of a trailer to help make the film look the best it possibly can? The movie's not coming out for another year or so, so maybe they'll have the chance to fix things up...

Where Did I Put Those Beanie Babies?
Imagine this. You're walking through a yard sale and you spot a purple Beanie Baby. Remember those little stuffed animals from the 90s that were all the rage? People collected them in the hopes that some day, they'd be worth much more than the face value. That didn't pan out, so they ended up in bins and bags in basements all around the world. Lots of them pop up in yard sales. So a couple in Cornwall, England spotted a purple one, and recognized it as a fairly rare one - a Princess Di Beanie Baby.  He grabbed it up, paying about $15 for it. And when he researched it, he found it was one of only 100 made, and could be worth up to $93,000. Now where did I put those Beanie Babies?

Ellen vs. Matt Escalates
We're at war, people. Well, it's an early morning versus daytime war, between Matt Lauer and Ellen DeGeneres. The most recent salvo is Matt's. This comes after Ellen started jazzing up Matt's mornings with some racy Photoshopped clips. Matt retaliated by filling Ellen's car with 20,000 ping pong balls. Ellen sent her viewers to Rockefeller Plaza to test for Matt's tickle points. And now, Matt paid to have billboards erected around Los Angeles, showing Ellen as a plumber, butt-crack and all. Funny stuff. Even Ellen thinks so. No telling what will be next though... Look what I saw on my way to work today. Referee Trip & Fall Makes Highlight Reel
It's always funny to see someone take a fall - as long as the only thing hurt is a guy's ego, right? The other night, NBA referee Joey Crawford took a center-court face-plant during the Toronto Raptors home game against the Charlotte Hornets. It's tough to tell what he did - probably tripped over his own feet - but he did make a nice headfirst slide. What better way to watch than with a continuous Vine, right?
