Lake Geneva...HOLY BEAUTIFUL!
Over the Memorial Day weekend, my family and I were in Crystal Lake, IL for my son Anthonys travel team, The Milwaukee Angels 13U tournament!   They ended up losing their 1st game on Sunday…which knocked them out!  SAD?  Yes!  However, it gave us a chance to spend some quality time together and DISCOVER places we’ve not seen yet.

By PURE ACCIDENT, we ended up in LAKE GENEVA!  OMG!  How BEAUTIFUL is this place!!!  We had a great dinner at Chuck’s Lakeshore Inn,  walked around for a bit and was in AWE of the scenery around us…beach filled, boats EVERYWHERE and that got me thinkin’…next time, we’re RENTING A BOAT!   I can do that right?  Even though I’ve never driven one before?  If not, gonna just take the boat tour J!

Bottom line:  we’re DEFINITELY going back to enjoy what Lake Geneva has to offer.  Oh, and THANK YOU SPRING FOR SHOWING UP!  FINALLY! (knock on wood)

Have a great weekend!

OMG! REALLY?
On May 16th,  I posted on FB that I’d been to Leon’s for the FIRST time!  People were AMAZED by that…ya’ know, since I’ve been here since December and my family since the end of February.  Well, I’m SAD (BUT ALSO GLAD) that it took this long to find it because:

A) We’d have been there every night (or every other, anyway)
B) See A!

Lesson learned…we’re gonna do more exploring for the great food Milwaukee and the surrounding areas have to offer.  PLEASE, feel free to share YOUR favorite places with me as well!  My family LOVES to eat J  We’re always down for finding great places to hang out and enjoy some great food and fun!

AS ALWAYS, THANKS SO MUCH for listening to The Mix!

P.S.-The PINEAPPLE milkshake was OUTSTANDING!  YUM.  Ok, now I'm going there tonight :)

FAMILY.IS.EVERYTHING.
The last 2 weeks have been AMAZING and FAMILY is the reason!  My wife Sarah is the youngest of 5 sisters and to say she’s close to them is a HUGE understatement!  She does have a sister that’s “HER PERSON” though, and if you watch GREYS ANATOMY, you’ll get that reference!

You see, Sarah just celebrated her 40th birthday on April 28th and it would be the first time in years that she wouldn’t be able to celebrate with her Mom and Sisters in some way or another…OR SO SHE THOUGHT!   Let’s just say I’m TERRIBLE at keeping secrets…but I kept this one and IT WAS A BIGGIE!  My Mother-In-Law and Sister-In-Law (not just any sister, but HER PERSON) were coming to surprise her for her birthday!  They flew into Chicago, drove to meet me here at the radio station and let me just tell you…it was THE MOST AMAZING REACTION EVER when we walked in the house and I had Mom and Leslie with me!  There were tears, neverending hugs and my kids were just as happy as it was the first time they’d seen their Mom-Mom or Auntie since we moved to Milwaukee!   Always remember: FAMILY IS FOREVER…no matter how near or far, they are always there.  You’re just a phone call away...or a plane ride even!  THIS was special and had to be shared with YOU, my OTHER FAMILY!

Thank you for reading this and THANK YOU SO MUCH for listening to The Mix!

Eco-friendly Control of Thrips
Poorly developed flowers, stunted plants and silvery streaks on leaves are indications thrips may be feeding on your plants. These tiny insects have file-like mouthparts they use to puncture the outer surface of leaves, stems and flowers and suck out plant sap. They are very small and difficult to detect. Hold a white piece of paper under the plant and shake. Or remove the petals of damaged flowers, place in a sealed jar with 70% alcohol and shake the jar to dislodge and detect the pests. Control is difficult and often not needed as the damage is discovered after the thrips have finished feeding. Provide the proper growing conditions and care for your plants. Avoid excess nitrogen that promotes lush succulent growth these pests prefer. And remove spent flowers that tend to harbor the insects. Manage weeds in the garden and keep thrip-susceptible plants away from weedy areas where the pest populations tend to be high. A bit more information: Beneficial insects like predatory thrips, green lacewings, minute pirate bugs and some parasitic wasps feed upon plant damaging thrips. Invite these good bugs into the garden by planting a diversity of plants and avoiding persistent pesticides. Visit the University of California IPM online for more details on this pest.
