I am really enjoying this kitchen design process that I am doing with Kaerek Homes in West Allis for their upcoming MBA Parade of Homes Tour.
Now when it comes to cabinets, there are thousands of choices. I have no idea where to start. Please help?!?! Is it best to go modern and smooth or mix the the design of cabinets up - some with design, some without?
I've also heard it can be very attractive to have a few cabinets with a glass door to add some more open space. Either way there are a lot of options and I can't decide on which ones look best. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated...so what would you choose for your dream kitchen?
And don't forget, you can see the unveiling of this beautiful kitchen at the MBA Parade of Homes Tour August 21st – September 12th.
I really like modern designs. I really like some of the funky stuff they do on HGTV. I think the look of two different colors can look amazing (two different stains). I also like lighter colored cabinets with a dark (black) granite. Oiled bronze accents (small and simple) to finish it off. Good luck and have fun!
First thing I have to ask is: Are you getting any guidance from the designers at Kaerek? If so, listen to them and let them guide you.
Now, for my opinion - I like to stay away from light colors and the ultra modern look. It is too much to maintain. I like to keep cabinets in the medium to dark and warm color scheme. Think earth tones and warm colors. I like butternut cabinets with a medium stain and stone type counter tops. I also think it is a must to stagger the cabinets. Look at the tops and make sure it is not one straight line across. Crown molding is expensive but it is the finishing touch to the cabninets. I consider that a must have! Definately add some glass doors. That leaves the option for detail using the place settings for a splash of color. Have you seen the hand painted dish sets out there?? They are beautiful and make nice accents in the kitchen. I like to tell myself to use the rich, warm, earthy tones to keep things simple, elegant and balanced. Earth tones compliment each other very easily. Everything must flow and at the end of the day it MUST be easy on the eyes so that the homeowner feels at ease when they walk in the door. Good luck!! I can't wait to see the finished product!!
If you ever get a chance to see Milwaukee from the water...do it! I don't know what it is about the water but everything looks beautiful when you're on the water. I took these over the weekend and just looking at them calms me. We have a beautiful city enjoy it and enjoy what's left of summer:)
