Eat All Your Vegetables Day ? June 17th

Load up your plate with fresh-from-the garden produce as you celebrate Eat All Your Vegetables Day on June 17th
Use this day to inspire new additions to your vegetable garden while encouraging reluctant veggie eaters to try something new.  Once they try some fresh vegetables they may be willing to make them a regular part of their diet.  And, if you get them to grow their own, they are even more likely to partake.
Once you’re inspired, look for extra space to add more vegetables to the landscape.  Start by calculating the number of days left in your growing season.  Simply count from the anticipated planting date to the average date of the first fall frost in your area.  Check plant tags and seed packets for the number of days needed from planting until harvest.  Make a list of these vegetables.
Then look for vacant spaces in flowerbeds, mixed borders and containers.  And train vines crops up decorative trellises and fences.
A bit more information:  Here are a few short season crops you may want to consider.  Plant seeds and be ready to harvest radishes, leaf lettuce, spinach and chard in 40 days.  Beets, bush snap beans, cucumbers and kohlrabi are ready to harvest in 50 to 60 days. Carrots, Chinese cabbage, and turnips take about 10 days longer.

More Patriots Controversy
It seems like the New England Patriots are magnets for controversy. The whole Deflategate thing is finally winding down, but now the 10 & 0 Pats have another tempest brewing. At least this one isn't about them. It happened to them. They're calling it Whistlegate. During Monday's game between the Patriots and the Buffalo Bills, a referee blew a whistle that ended a play that looked like it might have resulted in a Patriots touchdown. After a huddle of about 15 minutes (okay, that's an exaggeration), the refs announced that the whistle had been "inadvertent." And the football world goes mad! At least this will give folks something to chew on for the rest of the season, right?   Coming up @FargoStRadio at 2p we recap #NEvsBUF game last night. Oh & what were the refs thinking here? #whistlegate https://t.co/9WiqkKA9Rb — Boston Herald Radio (@HeraldRadio) November 24, 2015   Dear @nflcommish, please fine Rex Ryan. That is all. #whistlegate pic.twitter.com/ATthPJLxQt — Josh Carroll (@joshuacarroll83) November 24, 2015

"Never Talk About Sex, Politics or Religion"
This may be the most awkward exchange ever between two people who make their living with comedy. Stephen Colbert had Bill Maher on his show the other night, and the discussion turned to religion. Stephen's a practicing Catholic - "doesn't mean I'm good at it," says Stephen. Bill was raised Catholic, but is now non-religious. Somehow, Stephen tried to convince Bill to return to the Church. I'm pretty sure he was kidding, but Bill didn't seem to get that. And that's when it all turned awkward. Check it out. Maybe it's just me?

"A New Classic for a New Generation"
There's been a lot of buzz surrounding Creed, aka Rocky VII. In this one, the son of Apollo Creed turns to Rocky Balboa to manage him as a boxer. Sort of putting Rocky in the Mickey spot. And putting Sylvester Stallone back in the spotlight after a pretty good stretch out of it. They're marketing this as your Thanksgiving movie. Might not be a bad idea to plan to see it. Sure beats Black Friday shopping...   (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); See why critics are calling #CREED "an absolute knockout." 7pm screenings Tuesday, everywhere Wednesday: http://bit.ly/creedtix Posted by Creed on Monday, November 23, 2015

Take Off the Football Helmet, Put on the Dunce Cap
Johnny Manziel - the NFL quarterback who'd prefer to be known as Johnny Football - was named the starting QB for the Cleveland Browns for the remainder of the season. That was last week. Yesterday, he lost the starting position. He also lost the back-up position. He's now the Number 3 QB, and all because of video that surfaced showing him partying Manziel-style after being named the starting QB. When his coach handed the spot to him, he did tell him to be on his best behavior. Looks like maybe that didn't sink in...

Burying the Star Wars Hatchet
Jimmy Kimmel Live has a long-standing running gag suggesting that Harrison Ford is feuding with Chewbacca from the Star Wars franchise. Something to do with a woman - "a long time ago... in a galaxy far, far away," says Jimmy. Last night, it looks like a near tragedy managed to bring the two old friends together. Thank you, Jimmy Kimmel!

Hello, Miss Piggy
Adele has taken over the entertainment world as the year closes out. She was on Saturday Night Live this weekend, she pulled that prank with Adele impersonators on the BBC, and her song "Hello" is doing phenomenally well. So well, it's leap-frogging over anything Taylor Swift did in 2015 as the most-parodied video of the year. Look who's taking a swipe at it now. Miss Piggy, in a bold-faced promotional move for The Muppets on ABC.

An Amazing Story
Wyatt is a 12-year-old autistic boy who loves the Blue Man Group. His right arm was amputated shortly after he was born. His wish was to have a robotic Blue Man Group arm. The folks at Limbitless Solutions made that happen with a low-cost arm produced on a 3D printer, and had the folks at Blue Man Group present the arm to Wyatt. Watch this amazing video from a couple of weeks ago, and tell me you don't tear up...   (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); When you take Blue Man Group, Limbitless Solutions and an amazing boy named Wyatt - magic happens. Doesn't A Capella Mean No Music?
An interesting moment at the American Music Awards on Sunday night. Harrison Ford - you might remember him as Han Solo from Star Wars? - introduced a musical segment paying homage to the music of Star Wars. Pentatonix, the truly amazing a capella group, backed by a symphony orchestra. An a capella group, with an orchestra... Am I the only one who finds that contradictory? Rather than compliment each other, it seems they worked against each other... What do you think?

The Lost Star Wars Audition Tapes
You can bet that when it was announced that JJ Abrams would be directing the upcoming Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens, he was buried in audition requests and tapes. On Saturday Night Live this weekend, he shared some of those tapes with the world. You never know who's going to show up when a part in a potential blockbuster is on the line, right? Very funny clips - with some very interesting cameos too.

A Fitting Tribute to the Parisian Victims
At the American Music Awards last night, the producers put aside some time to recognize those lost in the Parisian terror attacks just a little more than a week ago. Celine Dion performed "Hymne a L'Amour," a French standard meaning "Hymn to Love." The translation of part of the song is so very meaningful:   "If one day life tears you away from me If you die than you will be far from me What's it matter if you love me Because I will die too. We will have for us, eternity in the blue of all the immensity in heaven, no more problems My love do you believe that we love each other God, reunite those who love each other."

Get a Room!
Ridiculously hot, or soooo uncomfortable. That's how people are reacting to the moment on last night's American Music Awards when Megan Trainor and Charlie Puth locked lips. And they were serious about "Marvin Gaye" and getting it on. Check it out, and see which side of the fence you fall on...

Tag, You're It
Here's a viral Vine for you. Will Parks is a safety for the University of Arizona Wildcats. When his team faced the Utes from the University of Utah a week ago, the game ended in a tie at the end of four quarters, going into overtime. The four captains from each team met at mid-field for a coin toss. As the referee stepped forward to announce who'd won, Will started to walk away. The referee tapped Will on the shoulder pad, probably to keep him there until the announcement was made. So Will turned around and gently tagged the ref on the shoulder. Funny. And viral. At this writing, close to a quarter-million hits, with close to 13 million loops.

Really? Is This Really a Record?
Dontari Poe is a nose tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs. In his team's face off with the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, he lined up behind the offensive line and went airborne to score a 1-yard rushing touchdown. Consider that this guy is a defensive tackle. And he weighs 346 pounds. Making him the heaviest person ever in the NFL to score an offensive touchdown. Because apparently, that's a stat that everyone keeps track of... Dontari Poe weighs 346 lbs & is now, officially: The heaviest player to ever score an offensive touchdown. #KCvsSD https://t.co/ZXBYiqCVT2 — NFL (@NFL) November 22, 2015

Bite Me Off a Piece of That Gold Leaf Bar
I do believe this is the true definition of decadence. The folks at Nestle, the fine purveyors of chocolate items, have announced a limited-edition specialty item. It's called the Sublime Gold Kit Kat, and it's covered in edible 24-carat gold leaf. Yes, you read that correctly. Edible gold. They'll be sold only in Japan, and only in eight stores that specialize in "selling only the most premium of Kit Kats in the fanciest of flavors," according to The Daily Meal. The stores have just hit the one-million customer milestone, and the Sublime Gold Kit Kat is part of the celebration. And it's only going to cost a little over $16. For one gold-leafed Kit Kat stick. Not even a full bar. Sounds expensive, until you consider that's what you pay for a Kit Kat at any movie concession stand here in The States.   Golden Kit Kats chocolates to go on sale https://t.co/35O0sg0O5Z pic.twitter.com/shTXR1QkwC — Daily Nation (@dailynation) November 21, 2015

Pushing a Little Too Far?
Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm behind the times. Kim Kardashian's talking about getting a push present. I've never heard of a push present, have you? Apparently, it's a gift a husband gives to his wife after the wife has carried a baby for nine months and given birth. Kim wrote about it on her website: "I like the idea of a push present—after nine months of pregnancy it's a sweet and well-deserved thank you." She says she has friends who've gotten gifts like a "special diamond ring" and a new car. What does Kim expect from Kanye? How about a Lorraine Schwartz diamond choker, like the ones she's worn in the past to gala events.   "We women go through an entire pregnancy carrying a baby...of course it only makes sense that we get something amazing to show how amazing we are! LOL!" Remember the good old days, when a newborn baby was push present enough?

To Infinity & Beyond... Just Not on an Airplane
This is a very odd story. TSA agents at the Orlando, Florida airport confiscated a Buzz Lightyear toy because it looked like a weapon. It's a plastic grabber - you squeeze the handle, a gripper at the end of the toy closes. In the middle is a squared-off lime green space ray gun. A young boy from Pennsylvania had purchased it at Disneyworld. And because the family didn't have anything other than carry-on luggage, they had to leave it behind. I'm all for tight security when it comes to air travel, but is this over the top? What do you think?   COMMON SENSE LOST? Child's Buzz Lightyear toy taken by TSA in Ft. Lauderdale. https://t.co/lQa2sXbIf1 #Fox35 #GDO pic.twitter.com/b5tXDyKSIm — Amy Kaufeldt (@Fox35Amy) November 20, 2015

"That's Her!"
Graham Norton and the gang at BBC pulled off an amazing and elaborate prank with the help of Adele. They set up auditions for Adele impersonators, then changed Adele up a bit - fake nose, fake chin, fake identity - and made her one of the contestants. None of the other auditioners knew that the real deal was among them. Until the moment when "Jenny" got up there to audition. One by one, they all realized they were at an amazing private concert. And their reactions are hilarious!

When Boy Bandz Grow Up
Did you ever wonder what happens to boy bands when they grow up? They have a whole new set of problems, that's what happens. So why not sing about them? The Late Late Show featured the "reunion" of M3N NOT BOYZ the other night, and it was outstanding. Okay, so it's not a real group. It's James Corden - host of The Late Late Show - Bryan Cranston - Walter White from Breaking Bad - and Reggie Watts - band leader for The Late Late Show. And it's hilarious. Check it out. And make sure you pay attention to the lyrics!

Sorry, Peyton, But This is Hilarious
Peyton Manning's been taking a beating this past week over his performance - or better yet, non-performance - against the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday. After breaking Brett Favre's all-time passing record, he threw four interceptions and was benched in the third quarter, replaced by the Broncos' back-up QB. Since then, the internet has been merciless, kicking the guy while he's down. Things didn't get any better yesterday, when Peyton remained on the bench, and back-up QB Brock Osweiler led the Broncos to a victory. Well, here's another kick. A promotional message for Peaceful Pockets, the retirement community for quarterbacks who just can't get the job done anymore. Just a little vicious, but flat-out funny.

Watch the Net!
On Tuesday night in the world of college basketball, the Kentucky Wildcats beat the Duke Blue Devils 74 - 63. Alex Poythress, power forward for the Wildcats, had nine points, seven rebounds and one block in his 30 minutes on the floor. Oh, and one dental extraction. Almost. Going for an alley-oop lay-up, Poythress caught this teeth on the net on the way down. Check out the Vine that captured the moment, and below it, an amazing photo...     Before we take off and head back to Lexington, chew on this. Alex did. Peyton Breaks a Record, Takes a Seat
So last weekend must have been bittersweet for one of the NFL's top quarterbacks. In the same game where he broke Brett Favre's passing record, Peyton Manning also threw four interceptions and was benched in the third quarter. It's the old good news/ bad news thing, NFL-style. So people have been taking shots at Peyton all week. Sorry, man, but it comes with the territory. Here are links to the two best, if you ask me, both from The Onion: "Aging Peyton Manning Now Forced To Take Field with Assistance Dog" "Alarming MRI Shows Peyton Manning Has Been Dead For Past 6 Months" Funny stuff, right there.

Down & Dirty with DeNiro
Robert DeNiro has a new movie coming out at the beginning of 2016. Dirty Grandpa is more than dirty. It's filthy. And it looks funny as heck. Robert plays a recently-widowed former Army general who tricks his straightlaced grandson (Zac Efron) into driving him to Florida for spring break. Call it a raunchy road trip. Check out the cleanish trailer below. And if you're interested, there's some uncut trailers on YouTube - but those you'll have to find yourself.

"What Are You Waiting For? Come Dance with Us!"
Jennifer Lawrence visited The Tonight Show the other night, and showed off her comedy chops. She and Jimmy Fallon created a dance-happy QVC couple selling "Come Dance with Us" videos. What's really cool about it is they talk about it at the desk and on the couch, then go to create it live. Three different times. And maybe the funniest part is when they're back at the desk and on the couch in between, catching their breath...

"You Need Things Like... Straps"
Neil deGrasse Tyson is arguably the world's most famous astronomer. When it comes to things in space, he's the man. So that's why National Geographic went to him to ask about having sex in space. Not with him. They were just curious about the mechanics of it all. And Neil was pretty straightforward, frank and funny, all at the same time. But as I watched, all I could think was, "Why is Alfonso Ribeiro talking about zero-gravity relations?" Is it just me?
