Congrats Conan

conan

Conan went out BIG last night trumping every other late night show with HUGE ratings for his final night on "The Tonight Show."  Why is it that everyone loves you when you're about to leave or gone?  Where was everyone for the last 7 months?  It just goes to show we all love DRAMA!  We always slow down to see the car accident on the other side of the highway because we must see the smashed up car.   Last night was the conclusion to a a great drama and it was "MUST SEE NBC" TV at it's finest.  You can look at all the numbers here. If you missed the farewell or want to see it again check it out now here.

RIP, Bobbi Kristina
Bobbi Kristina Brown's family reported that she passed away last night at the age of 22. The daughter of the late Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown was found unconscious and unresponsive in her bathtub six months ago. She never regained consciousness. The Houston family issued a statement: "Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away July, 26 2015, surrounded by her family. She is finally at peace in the arms of God. We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months." Sad news of a life cut tragically short.

Best Headline Ever?
This may be the best - and by best, I mean funniest - headline I've read in a while. It's an article from US Weekly. Headline: "Snoop Dogg Arrested in Sweden on Suspicion of Drugs" Suspicion? That's it? Suspicion? And the funniest part of the story - he apparently passed the pee-in-the-cup test. Yeah, me too. I'm shocked. Check out the story in US Weekly. There's an Instagram video there that Snoop posted about the incident. He's not happy, so it's Not Safe For Work!

Competing with the Kardashians?
Okay, we get it. Kylie and Kendall Jenner aren't really Kardashians, but they're part of the clan. They're usually facing stiff competition from their older half-siblings - Kim, Kourtney and Khloe. But now, competition from outside the family. Jessica Simpson posted a picture to Instagram, showing her wearing a bathing suit also worn on Instagram by Kylie and Kendall. Jessica's about twice as old as the kids, but she seems to be wearing it just as well. Epic A-Rod Wipeout
Say what you will about him, Alex Rodriguez is still good for a chuckle now and again. Check out this sequence of pix as A-Rod tumbles over home plate - scoring in the process - in a recent game between the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles. The folks at NESN break it down...

Let It Go in the Shower
You learn something new every day. Today, I learned two new things. (1) Gwyneth Paltrow runs a website called goop.com. It was "launched" from her kitchen in 2008. According to the website, "goop has become a place for GP to introduce some of the incredible experts who have mentored her throughout her life to a wider audience, and a place where readers can find suggestions about where to shop, eat, and stay from a trusted friend—not from an anonymous, crowd-sourced recommendation engine." (2) Gwyneth and goop recommend that women pee in the shower for their inner health. This from the woman who consciously uncoupled late last year. Directly from the site, so you know I'm not making it up: "Try peeing in the shower squatting down. When you squat to pee as opposed to sitting up straight on the toilet, you automatically engage your pelvic floor and it naturally stretches and tones. Because your urethra is pointed straight down in this position all you have to do is relax for urine to flow out easily—as opposed to sitting up straight and having to strain to empty your bladder." So what do you think, ladies? Can you do it? Will you do it? Here's a link to the whole article, in case you're interested...

They're Called "Wild" Animals for a Reason
I guess some people see warning signs and say, "Well, yeah, but that doesn't mean me." Here's a story that could have ended up with a much more horrible ending. A woman and her daughter were visiting Yellowstone National Park with her family when they spotted a bison. So she and her daughter decided to take a selfie with the bison behind them. Maybe the bison didn't like having his picture taken? So he came up behind the pair and tossed mom into the air. Luckily, she wasn't hurt too badly, but she did have to get treatment at a hospital. So please, take this is a warning. And if you're thinking, "Well, yeah, but that doesn't mean me," we'll probably be writing about you someday soon.   ABC US News | World News

Feeling Good About Saving a Killer
Scientists came to the rescue in a MacGyver sort of way last week to save a nine-year-old killer whale found stranded on some rocks on the coast of British Columbia. They think the orca got caught at low tide chasing a seal, and was unable to get back into the water. According to The Daily Mail: "The group designed what it called a 'MacGyver type water pump' to keep the animal from drowning, and ultimately were able to keep the nine-year-old mammal alive until high tide freed her that evening." Pretty amazing stuff. Here's the video of the whale swimming free...

Now Kim K's Fixing the Internet?
First, Kim Kardashian tried to break the internet. It didn't really happen. So now, she's trying to fix the internet. Well, the Twitter part of it anyway. She tweeted to the co-keeper of the Twittersphere, Jack Dorsey, the other day. I just emailed Twitter to see if they can add an edit feature so that when u misspell something u don't have to delete & repost Let's see... — Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) July 25, 2015 And he tweeted her back, saying it was a great idea. "We're always looking at ways to make things faster and easier," he wrote. So she tweeted words of hope. Well, sort of... Thank you @Jack #FounderOfTwitterUnderstands !!! https://t.co/SzCM03xAH2 — Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) July 25, 2015 But not everyone's happy about it. You've got to read Jack's Twitter feed. It's going a little nutty about the whole thing.

Come Back, Rob Lowe, Come Back!
Rob Lowe's out as the spokesperson for DirecTV. You remember the ads where the regular Rob Lowe had DirecTV and a variety of "other" split-screened Rob Lowes had cable. Those ads were so cheesy, they were starting to grow on me. So anyway, he's out. Gone. See ya later, Gator. And he's been replaced by... Drum roll, please. New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. Let that sink in. And then watch his DirecTV commercial debut. Perhaps after that, you'll help organize the Bring Back Rob Lowe committee in your town?

"When Civilization Ends... It Ends Fast"
To date, the trailers for Fear the Walking Dead, the prequel to AMC's hit show, The Walking Dead, have been less than intriguing. Looks like the trailer the producers released at Comic-Con last week has got a little more meat to it. Okay, a lot more meat, and some of it human. I held off watching it until now, fully expecting more disappointment. My bad. Now I get it. To some degree, it's even more horrifying than The Walking Dead, since it tells the story of how the zombies came to be to begin with. I actually think I might have to tune in to the premiere now. What do you think?

Modern Technology Meets the Future
One of the most advanced personal cameras available to man today is the GoPro. People can strap it on anywhere and anything and capture some pretty interesting video points-of-view. So what would it be like if a Jedi warrior - someone like Obi Wan Kenobi - strapped one on and captured a day-in-the-life? Wonder no more, my friends. That moment has happened. Today has met the future, and it's pretty cool.

No Talking or Texting in the Theater
Seriously, is anything more annoying than someone talking or texting in the middle of a movie or a play. Last week, Broadway star Patti Lupone made news when she walked off stage and took away the phone of someone who was texting during a performance. Now, it's Kevin Bacon's turn, and he's upping the ante. Because in Kevin Bacon's world, talking and texting in a theater is a crime. And you could do time. Check out this PSA for Alamo Cinemas...

Pixels Panned Pre-Opening
Adam Sandler's new movie, Pixels, gets wide release tonight. The premise: video games from the 80s were launched into space to say hello to alien species. After 30 years, they're back to terrorize Earth. The only hope to save the planet: the gamers who conquered the video games 30 years ago. Here's the trailer...   As usual, film critics got to see the movie before the general public. The folks at BuzzFeed assembled the 11 best reviews - and by "best," I mean reviews that skewered the film and Adam Sandler. My favorite, from Josh Bell at Las Vegas Weekly: "Calling Pixels one of Sandler's better movies is like calling a particular strain of Ebola somewhat less horrifically painful; either way, it's not pleasant."

What Is This, A Fruit Salad Tree?
Here comes a wacky science story, everybody, from the Land of Botany. A professor at Syracuse University has created - with the help of a process called "chip grafting" - a tree capable of growing 40 different types of fruit. They're all stone fruits - in other words, fruits with pits - and the professor considers the trees works of art. Check out the video from National Geographic.

Now Standing In For a Plague of Locusts...
I thought it was Shark Week, but it's looking more like Bug Week. Yesterday, we talked about a 50-mile long swarm of grasshoppers and beetles that was showing up on weather radar. Today, we talk about a swarm of mayflies that made a knee-high insectile pile that closed down a bridge that connects Illinois and Iowa. Closed down a bridge. They had to get a public works crew on-scene with a snowplow to push the buggers off the bridge - and then they had to sand it down because they'd left a slippery mess. This is real, people. Check out the news story. And stock up on your Raid and Off products. The next swarm could be hitting your town!

Grab Some Raid, Y'all!
The Weird Science story of the day is right here. The National Weather Service has declared an official Bug Alert for Knox County, Texas. There's a swarm of grasshoppers and beetles actually showing up on radar. Check this out. The swarm goes from the ground to about 2500 feet in the air, and covers 50 miles. That's a heck of a lot of bugs right there. I'm thinking, if you live in Knox County, Texas, maybe you stay inside for a bit. With the windows closed...   Check it out! Rangers at Copper Breaks State Park confirmed the radar is picking up grasshoppers & beetles! #texomawx pic.twitter.com/lBWjvai7Zw — NWS Norman (@NWSNorman) July 22, 2015

Batman, Superman & Darth Vader Walk Into a Death Star...
Consider this one a TBT gift - the video's from a few months ago, but I just stumbled on it. It's especially funny considering all the hype surrounding Batman Versus Superman and the new Star Wars movie. An Executive Order We Can Get Behind!
President Barack Obama made his seventh - and final - appearance on The Daily Show this week. He spent about 20 minutes with Jon Stewart, and they talked about fun stuff and serious stuff as well. But right off the  bat, the President made an announcement that I think we, as a country, can stand behind, 100%. An executive order that Jon Stewart cannot leave The Daily Show. Call your representatives and senators, people!

"Are You Judd Apatow?"
Judd Apatow, the director/writer/producer, made his stand-up comedy debut on The Tonight Show Monday night. His television debut, anyway. He did stand-up for a while, but quit when he was 24. So he talked about his family life, his daughters, being Jewish. And then he took aim at Bill Cosby, even doing a passable applause-earning impression of him. Not something a lot of people have done - not comedically, anyway. Watch the clip, see what you think...

GQ's Cover, Redone by Amy Schumer
So perhaps you've seen the cover photoshoot Amy Schumer did for GQ this month. After hailing her as the funniest woman in the galaxy, she naturally had to pose with a bunch of characters from Star Wars. Makes perfect sense, right? But it turns out, the folks at Disney were less than thrilled, since no one asked permission to use the Star Wars characters, which Disney actually owns. But that's not important right now. What is important is that the folks at GQ asked Amy if she'd like to design her own cover. Check it out by clicking here - and see if maybe Amy went a little too far. Me? I say not far enough!

Lindsay Graham Trashes His Cell Phone - and Then Some!
By now, you've probably heard how Donald Trump gave out Senator Lindsey Graham's phone number the other day at a rally in South Carolina - the senator's home state. The Donald was upset that the senator had called him a "jackass" earlier - referring to The Donald's comments about Senator John McCain. So The Donald told a story about Senator Graham - "Graim," as he pronounced it - coming to him four years earlier to ask for a favor. And he gave The Donald his number, which The Donald read aloud. The Donald says he did it for fun. But then he told the folks at Politico.com, "He calls me names, you have to fight back.” Here's how Senator Graham responded. Nicely played, Senator, nicely played.

X-Daisies, Anyone?
Four years ago, when the nuclear power plant in Fukushima, Japan experienced a meltdown, scientists predicted mutations would happen eventually. There was a lot of talk about three-headed fish. Now, it looks like the first mutations may have been documented - in daisies growing about 100 miles away from the disaster area, in a spot called safe for medium to long-term habitation. TheWeatherNetwork.com explains: "The flowers appear to be afflicted with a condition called 'fasciation' or 'cresting' and, while rare, this type of mutation has been spotted in daisies in other parts of the world in areas that haven't been exposed to radiation." Which means maybe it's not the radiation at all. Still, who wants to bet the folks at Burpee will be the first to package and sell the seeds in the US? Photo of 'mutant flowers' spotted near Japan's Fukushima Nuclear Disaster site go viral: http://t.co/HjCRWFRqMk pic.twitter.com/cu44YdaChl — The Weather Network (@weathernetwork) July 21, 2015

Just Visiting, Dudes
Sure, wild black bears just showing up in a public place tend to cause a ruckus. But you'd think when that public place is a zoo, they'd be better equipped to handle the situation. Not so much yesterday at the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage. A wild black bear wandered in and was hanging out in the trees above a couple of the animal pens. As a result, the opening of the zoo was delayed a bit. You know, because there was a wild animal there. The bear left on his own - well, he had a little coaxing - so all is well with the world. Until he comes back, of course. (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); The Zoo is now open!We had a wild visitor this morning. Check out this ten-minute "pitch" for the show, and see how grown-up the Muppets have gotten. I'm smelling must-see-TV right here...

This May Not Be the Best Way to Start Off Your Marriage
You've got to check this out. Seems like brides and grooms these days have got to enter their receptions dancing. The nuttier the dance, the better.
