We're FOOTBALL parents now!

I’m a bit bias, but my son Anthony is a GREAT BASEBALL player.   I think he’s a great athlete in general.    Now though, for the first time EVER, he’s a HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYER!   (GO GREENDALE PANTHERS)

Anthony’s been asking my wife and I to play football for the last 2+ years and our answer has always been “nah, you’re a baseball player buddy, focus on that” LOL!  Well, I admit that MOST of the reason for our answer was b/c he REALLY TRULY is a great baseball player and we didn’t want him getting HURT playing football…I also explained to him that playing high school football wasn’t anything like just getting together in the backyard with friends and throwing the ball around and that it’s ALOT of work, practice, sweat etc…

Well, he’s not backed down AT ALL and we just figured hey, he wants to do it, let him find out all of the hard work involved and see what happens!  The result:  HE’S RAN WITH IT and is excited to be doing it!  He’s already gotten hurt in camp, got whiplash, was out for a week and came back WITH MORE FIRE to do it!   We didn’t DOUBT he’d have the passion and drive to do it…we just worried he thought it was something that it’s not.  He’s showed us he’s ready for the challenge!

It’s been FUN to watch him learn something new…and he’ll get better and better as the practices and games begin!  My wife and I look forward to being a FOOTBALL Mom & Dad for the first time and just enjoying the ride!

In the end, it’s ALL about the experiences Anthony will have and the memories he’ll start making in high school that TRULY matter!

Thanks for reading!  Thanks for listening!  Just…THANKS!

Great visit from Mom-Mom!

My Mother-In-Law’s been in town for the last 10 days, visiting from Phoenix.   There are 2 reasons that Mom-Mom came to visit:  to see her Grandchildren  and …to see her grandchildren!  Seriously!  That’s perfectly fine, we KNOW she loves us too!  Wait, make that 3 reasons…our house is spotless now too…THANKS MOM!

I think we’ve shown Mom a great time during her visit.  Sarah and the kids took her to the Milwaukee County Zoo, then a pool day at Cool Waters and the last thing we did was Festa Italiana!  THAT was her favorite!

Festa Italiana was AMAZING!  We went on Friday night and HOLY RICEBALLS!  And lasagna sticks!  And zucchini sticks!  And eggplant sticks!  And calamari!  And CHOCOLATE CANNOLIS!  SOOOO many great foods to eat, music to hear, things and people to see…was a great experience!  Can’t wait for next year!

As always, THANK YOU for reading and for listening to 99.1 The Mix!  Hope you have a GREAT week!

4th Of July Weekend 2014...AWESOME!

4th Of July Weekend 2014 was one for the ages!  LOVED having my daughter and our adopted son Cameron (not really, but kinda) here for the fun!  Here’s how it went down:

Friday:  First Summerfest experience for the family and I and it didn’t disappoint!  Food, FUN, laughs, music and just a great time enjoying a MILWAUKEE SUMMER DAY…it FINALLY showed up!

Saturday:  Used bumpers and STILL got beat by a 3-year old, two 14-year olds, a 15-year old and my wife Sarah.  I’m NOT GOOD at bowling!

Sunday:  Spent the day in Lake Geneva and ya’ know…NO BIG DEAL… just drove a speedboat for the FIRST TIME EVER!   WHAT A RUSH!  Can’t wait to do it again!  Kids jumped off the boat and swam around for a bit and we just relaxed for a couple of hours…was PEACEFUL & AMAZING!

I hope you and yours had a GREAT holiday weekend as well!

As always, thanks so much for reading and THANK YOU for listening to 99.1 The Mix!

WHAT A WEEKEND!

If I had to pick JUST ONE WORD to describe this past weekend,   it’d be:  AMAZACRAZYAWESOME!   (I totally just made that word up)
Spent the weekend with the family at Key Lime Cove and WE HAD A BLAST!   Alyssa, Anthony, Ben and Cameron had the time of their lives on the water slides!  Sarah and I LITERALLY DID NOTHING on the lazy river, which I think is the idea when you’re on that LOL.

Embarassing moment alert:  I fell asleep on my tube and some random kid cruisin’ down the river decided he’d flip me over (that’s HARD to do)...that was a fun way to wake up!

It really was a GREAT family getaway…FUN & RELAXING!   Highly recommend!

As always, thank you for reading and thank you for listening to The Mix!

LIFE.IS.GOOD.

WHEW!  Now that the U.S./Germany game is over and the U.S. backed into the KNOCKOUT ROUND of the World Cup, I can write about how AWESOME the last few days have been and HOW MUCH FUN the next 2 weeks are gonna be!

On Tuesday, my daughter Alyssa came to visit for 2 weeks from NJ!  Yesterday, Neon Trees came by before their SUMMERFEST performance…then Jonathan Jackson from the hit show “Nashville” came to the radio station and did his thing for us.  Last night, we sat around the dinner table and played Apples To Apples.  FUN GAME!

This weekend, my son Anthony has a baseball tourney in Crystal Lake, IL and his games are on Saturday & Sunday.  Soooo, what are we gonna do IN BETWEEN?  Glad you asked!   Key Lime Cove for the ENTIRE WEEKEND and just a GREAT TIME as a FAMILY, TOGETHER!  Sorry, CAPS LOCK is broken LOL (not really)

What MORE could I ask for?  That’s right, not much.  I already have what I need…including YOU!  Thanks as always for listening,  thanks for reading this and most importantly, thanks for allowing me to be a part of your daily life!  Means SO much to me!

Have a GREAT WEEKEND!

Proud Papa!

My oldest son Anthony is 13, soon to be 14 on July 1st!   Another hard thing about leaving NJ for Milwaukee was having to pull Anthony, mid-year, from 8th grade.  ALL of his friends growing up were there…baseball teammates, there…his ENTIRE childhood, there!

I KNOW it wasn’t an easy thing for him to do.  Think about it...REALLY, I asked him to START ALL OVER!  6 months have now gone by…and how’s he doing?  HE'S KNOCKING IT OUT OF THE PARK!  AWESOME grades, he continues to make new friends, found a new travel baseball team and is LOVING Wisconsin life like the rest of us!   Last Friday, he graduated 8th grade from Greendale Middle School and I can’t believe it but: HE WILL BE A FRESHMAN next year at Greendale High School.  He’s also decided to try another sport and signed up for football!

I’d say that I’m surprised that Anthony took this challenge of picking up/leaving/starting all over and is just KICKING BUTT doing it, but that’s Anthony!  I didn’t think it’d turn out ANY.OTHER.WAY.

I’m SO PROUD of him and there aren’t enough words I could write in this blog to explain it properly!

Thank you so much for reading.  Thank you for making this an easy transition for ALL OF US!

The countdown Is ON...to June 24th!

I LOVE Milwaukee!  My FAMILY LOVES Milwaukee!  BUT…there was ONE REALLY HARD PART about leaving NJ to come here:  My now 15 year old daughter, Alyssa!  She lives in NJ and not a day goes by that we don’t chat on Facebook or text each other.  I’ve not seen her since Christmas, but THAT’S  about to change.  Tuesday June 24th can’t get here soon enough!  She’s coming to visit for TWO WEEKS and I CAN’T WAIT!

WE can’t wait to be a whole family again (EVEN IF it’s only for 2 weeks) and we’re gonna have some fun...already have a bunch planned!   My whole family and I are gonna get to EXPERIENCE SUMMERFEST for the 1st time together, we’ll do Lake Geneva, maybe even some Dells action…either way, just having Alyssa with us makes me HAPPY!

Thanks as always for reading…I certainly appreciate it!

Oh, and THANK YOU for listening to The Mix!

Lake Geneva...HOLY BEAUTIFUL!

Over the Memorial Day weekend, my family and I were in Crystal Lake, IL for my son Anthonys travel team, The Milwaukee Angels 13U tournament!   They ended up losing their 1st game on Sunday…which knocked them out!  SAD?  Yes!  However, it gave us a chance to spend some quality time together and DISCOVER places we’ve not seen yet.

By PURE ACCIDENT, we ended up in LAKE GENEVA!  OMG!  How BEAUTIFUL is this place!!!  We had a great dinner at Chuck’s Lakeshore Inn,  walked around for a bit and was in AWE of the scenery around us…beach filled, boats EVERYWHERE and that got me thinkin’…next time, we’re RENTING A BOAT!   I can do that right?  Even though I’ve never driven one before?  If not, gonna just take the boat tour J!

Bottom line:  we’re DEFINITELY going back to enjoy what Lake Geneva has to offer.  Oh, and THANK YOU SPRING FOR SHOWING UP!  FINALLY! (knock on wood)

Have a great weekend!

OMG! REALLY?

On May 16th,  I posted on FB that I’d been to Leon’s for the FIRST time!  People were AMAZED by that…ya’ know, since I’ve been here since December and my family since the end of February.  Well, I’m SAD (BUT ALSO GLAD) that it took this long to find it because:

A) We’d have been there every night (or every other, anyway)
B) See A!

Lesson learned…we’re gonna do more exploring for the great food Milwaukee and the surrounding areas have to offer.  PLEASE, feel free to share YOUR favorite places with me as well!  My family LOVES to eat J  We’re always down for finding great places to hang out and enjoy some great food and fun!

AS ALWAYS, THANKS SO MUCH for listening to The Mix!

These Guys LOVE the Patriots
In the media firestorm that's come to be known as Deflategate, it's become pretty clear that the New England Patriots are the most hated football team in the NFL. But there's still plenty of people who love this team and its players. Like these guys, who stepped up on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to take the hit for letting the air out of those footballs. Each one of them claims to be "the locker room guy" responsible for letting the air out of the balls. Wait. Do a couple of these guys look familiar...?

Captain America Vs. Guardian of the Galaxy!
Chris Evans is Captain America. He's a fan of the New England Patriots. Something to do with the red, white and blue, perhaps? Chris Pratt is a Guardian of the Galaxy. He favors the Seattle Seahawks. And for the past two weeks, the Captain and the Guardian have been at war. On Twitter, anyway. There have been wagers about who will do what if the other's team wins. But with their last tweets, the pair upped the ante with some back and forth images. First, this one from Chris Pratt, showing Patriots QB Tom Brady feasting on some sort of bird... hey @prattprattpratt ..... pic.twitter.com/ceDXefR8TG — Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) January 25, 2015 Followed by this one from Chris Evans, showing Seahawks QB Russell Wilson in a different sort of uniform... “@CNRTOW: See what you started @prattprattpratt 😝 pic.twitter.com/thCuvs55eR” @ChrisEvans — chris pratt (@prattprattpratt) January 26, 2015 Personally, I hope the bantering goes on long after the game is done.

"Lost Dog" Overcomes Obstacles
Budweiser released their 2015 Super Bowl commercial yesterday. At this writing, "Lost Dog" has already had over 8 million views on YouTube. The little puppy gets into a horse trailer at the Clydesdale ranch, and gets driven away. Not to worry - he escapes in the city, and finds his way home, overcoming all obstacles. Wait, what's that behind the tree, with his home within sight? Is it a wolf? Uh oh... You can watch the rest on your own... Except for the presence of the Clydesdales and the Budweiser cap on the guy who runs the place, I'm not really sure what this has to do with beer, but that's probably not all that important...   And for a little extra fun, check out this short clip that shows you some behind-the-scenes footage of the puppies used in this spot.

"Get Out of Here, You Low-Life Scum"
Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger arrived at a Senate hearing yesterday chaired by Senator John McCain. As the 91-year-old Kissinger took his seat, a group of protestors rose from theirs and started chanting, "Arrest Henry Kissinger for war crimes." They did it in a sort of sing-song way, but it really missed the mark. Kissinger didn't even seem to notice. Could be years of practice, could be that he's 91. But McCain did, and ordered the police officers in the room to remove the protestors. And as they were led out, McCain delivered the verbal coup de gras: "Get out of here, you low-life scum." Tell it like it is, Senator!

The Snow Never Bothered Them Anyway
A bona fide blizzard hit Boston and the Northeast this week, and there was an awful lot of complaining. But there was no complaining at the New England Aquarium, where some of the residents took full advantage of the snow day. Will This Be Katy Perry's Halftime Song?
Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch took the stage during media week leading up to the Super Bowl because he was obligated to do so. But I guess he didn't think he was obligated to say anything, because the answer to every question was a variation on "I'm just here so I don't get fined." It was pretty funny to watch, but the NFL didn't think so. They're considering whacking him with a huge fine. So what are they going to do to Katy Perry, the Big Game's halftime performer, who used the same line in a pre-Super Bowl interview? Check out this mashup of Marshawn and Katy saying the same thing over and over. If someone sets this to music, we're talking straight to the top of the charts. Katy could sing it during halftime. I wonder if the NFL would let Marshawn out of the locker room for a few minutes to make it a duet?

Ted 2 On the Way
Seth MacFarlane is back, people! A couple of years ago, his movie about a teddy bear that came to life earned the distinction of being "the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time." That's according to comingsoon.net, and why would they lie? On June 26, Ted 2 will hit the theaters, and the trailer for it hit the internet yesterday. Mark Wahlberg is back as Ted's best friend, and Morgan Freeman is part of the cast. Morgan. Freeman. In a movie about a talking teddy bear. Now you want to see it too, don't you? Steel Boils At About This Temperature
Lots of people want to know what the weather will be like in Glendale, Arizona for the Super Bowl this Sunday. Well just ask the folks at Fox 10 in Phoenix. Because it is HOT! Earlier this week, meteorologist Cory McCloskey was in the middle of a forecast when his current temperature board went a little nutty. 1270 degrees in Ahwatukee. 1350 in Surprise. All the way up to 2385 in Wickenburg. Lesser men would have melted. Not Cory - he handled it superbly, rolling with the numbers, and delivering up some stellar improv. Check it out!     (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Post by FOX 10 Phoenix.

Clearing the Finish Line
While a near-record snowfall covered the City of Boston, one man tried to stay ahead of the white stuff. Chris Laudani, a bartender, finished his shift early on Tuesday night, grabbed a shovel and headed for Boylston Street and the finish line of the Boston Marathon. On his own, he cleared the finish line - site of the horrific bombings - of snow. He wasn't looking for anything. "I only did it to send a message," he later told Boston Magazine after his identity was determined. I love the Boston Marathon and everything it stands for, the finish line doesn't deserve to be covered in snow." So touching...

Watch Out, Cupid!
Cupid's well-known for his archery skills. But after watching this video, I'll bet Cupid puts in for retirement. Denmark's Lars Anderson has spent his life studying and perfecting the art of archery, and has been clocked shooting three arrows - accurately too - in 1.52 seconds. That's faster than you can read the phrase "1.52 seconds." Watch what this guy can do - it really is amazing. Then send a nice Hallmark card to Cupid to cheer him up...

Freedom Summit, Revisited
Last weekend, a group of Republicans descended on Iowa for a Freedom Summit. It was an opportunity for some of the folks who would love to run the good ol' USA to strut their stuff in front of some folks who might like to see one of them run the good ol' USA. And a wonderful opportunity for Jon Stewart and The Daily Show to provide deep comic analysis of the event. Mike Huckabee was there. So was Ted Cruz. And Rick Perry, and Donald Trump too. And the cream on the Freedom Cupcake - former vice-presidential candidate, former Alaskan governor, Sarah Palin. Who somehow, at the end of Jon's analysis, morphed into Matthew McConaughey. And I did not see that coming...   The Daily Show Get More: Daily Show Full Episodes,The Daily Show on Facebook,Daily Show Video Archive

Not Your Typical Teddy Bear
The Vermont Teddy Bear Company makes all sorts of seasonal pitches for you to get a special teddy bear for the one you love. They're especially popular around Valentine's Day. (Heads up, guys, it's about two weeks away!). This year, the folks at VTBC are really putting some sizzle in the game, with the new Fifty Shades of Grey Bear. No, really. It looks like it's an official tie-in with Fifty Shades of Grey - maybe you've heard that the movie is coming out on Valentine's Day? (Heads up, guys, it's about two weeks away!) Check out the web page. The ad copy is pretty good: "He features smoldering gray eyes, a suit and silk tie, mask – even mini handcuffs." And in case you're wondering, no, it's not suitable for children, because it has small parts. Says it right at the bottom of the page. Cuz nothin' says "I love you!" more than the Bondage Bear!

Dungeons & Dragons... with Real People
Amanda Peet visited Conan the other night to talk about her role on the new HBO series, Togetherness. While she was there, she chatted a little about another HBO series, one that was co-created by her husband: Game of Thrones. And what she said almost got her booed off the show. Must have been some severe Throniacs in the audience. She admitted that when her husband first told her about the idea, she said it sounded terrible. "Like Dungeons & Dragons, but real, with real people," is how she described it. Now, she's a fan...  And not just because it's made her hubby a castleful of cash either.

Go Daddy or No Daddy
The folks at Go Daddy, keepers of so many web domains, usually produce an ad for the Super Bowl. Sometimes sultry, sometimes sexy, they usually cause a bit of a stir. This year, they decided to go with something a little more tame, sort of spoofing Budweiser's commercial last year about the lost dog. This new Go Daddy ad featured Buddy, a golden retriever puppy who finds his way home, only to find that his owner has just sold him on a website she built with Go Daddy's help. Buddy's owner, as it turns out, is a breeder from Gabby's Goldens. At the end of the ad, Buddy's loaded into a van and driven off. When the ad was released on Tuesday, animal rights activists were up in arms, and demanded that the ad - which they suggest was glorifying puppy mills - be pulled. And the folks at Go Daddy agreed. Here's the ad you won't see on Sunday. What do you think? Go Daddy? Or No Daddy?

And the MVP of the Day Goes To...
Taylor Swift may not be plastered all over the social mediascape the way that Kim Kardashian is, but she does have a very strong presence. Something like 51 million followers, making her Twitter's fourth largest account. And there's 20 million on Instagram. Yesterday, Taylor's Instagram and Twitter accounts were hacked, making it one of the largest hacks to date. Not a distinction anyone wants, but it looks like it was caught quickly - thanks to a fan and fellow musician who let Taylor know something wasn't right... Kardashian Klone Faktory?
Take a look at this Instagram picture at the bottom of this post... That's Bruce Jenner sort of in the middle, surrounded by his three step-daughters and two actual daughters. Unless you're an actual student of the K-Klan or a devotee of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, I imagine you're having trouble sorting out who's who. Me too. Okay, here's a tutorial, numbering the girls one through five, from left to right. The one thing they all have in common is their mother, currently known as Kris Jenner. Girls 1, 3 and 4 are not full sisters. Girl 5 actually does belong in the picture. Girls 2 and 4 are half-sisters. Girl 3 is not actually a clone of Girl 1, but she sure looks like it, doesn't she? Okay, here's your decorder ring: (1) Kim Kardashian; (2) Kendall Jenner; (3) Kylie Jenner; (4) & (5) Kourtney and Khloe, or vice versa. I'm not 100% sure. I'm glad we took the time to straighten this out... Almost.     daddy's girls A photo posted by Kylizzle (@kyliejenner) on Jan 19, 2015 at 6:28pm PST

It's a pretty informative piece, describing the time and place captured in the show. For instance, Saul Goodman (the character you know from Breaking Bad) is really Jimmy McGill?
