Brown Needles and Leaves on Evergreens

A walk through your garden this spring may reveal browning on both needled and broadleaf evergreen trees and shrubs.
Winter winds and sun, exposure to deicing salt and record low temperatures are likely the cause.  Evergreens continue to lose moisture through their leaves and needles throughout the winter. The winter sun and wind increase moisture loss.  Those gardening in areas with frozen soil are likely to see the most damage.
But even those in warmer regions may see winter scorch on newly planted or exposed evergreen plants.
We can’t turn the needles and leaves green, but we can provide proper care to speed recovery. If the branches are pliable and buds plump you should see new growth this spring. Broadleaf evergreens will replace the brown leaves with fresh new growth. Brown needles will eventually drop and the new growth this spring may mask the damage.
Wait for warmer weather to see what if any new growth appears.
A bit more information: Once plants have started to show signs of new growth, you have a decision to make. Is the plant healthy and attractive enough to nurture and keep? Or, would you be better off starting with a new plant and one better suited to the growing conditions. A difficult decision, but one that can save you time, money and frustration in the long run.

The Farce Was Missed with this One
Katherine Timpf is not a Star Wars fan. And that's okay. Unless you're a major uber Star Wars fan. Then it's major uber not okay. It started with a simple Tweet, with the Fox News contributor saying she wasn't familiar with Star Wars because she was too busy liking cool things and being attractive. Following that, she started getting death threats from people who took major uber offense to her comments. It's not funny, but she's not backing down either. You have to check out her Twitter feed. There's some pretty funny stuff there. Pretty pathetic stuff too.

Say "Hello" with Classroom Instruments
Jimmy Fallon frequently has Tonight Show musical groups join him and The Roots in a dressing room for an impromptu performance. So why not get Adele in there to sing "Hello," accompanied by toy instruments that could be found in any elementary school in the country? And why should we be surprised that even under those circumstances, Adele sounds amazing. She deserves every bit of attention she's getting lately, don't you think?

There's a 75% Chance of This Dress Showing Up on Your Weather Report
They're calling it the Weather Girl Dress. Sure, it's sexist and hearkens back to the 60s and 70s, but that's not the point. Thanks to a Facebook group, a certain dress is starting to appear on local weather forecasts, worn by female meteorologists. It's just $23 - economical - and available on Amazone - free shipping with Amazon Prime. And it meets the exacting standards for TV dress codes. No harsh patterns, no cleavage, and nothing green. So it's starting to appear all over the country. Is it in your market yet?   The ultimate weather girl uniform! Dozens of meteorologists across the county don the SAME $23 dress https://t.co/9GrocYTWeC — Tom Clements (@TomClementsKNOP) November 24, 2015

"This Movie Has a Lot of Boxing"
I love this movie review. Scott Sapp from the band Creed put on his reviewer's cap to take a look at the movie Creed. Truth be told, it's a FunnyOrDie bit, and Scott pulls it off perfectly. Plenty of tongue-in-cheek confusion, with Scott believing the movie's supposed to be a documentary about him and his band...   Scott Stapp Reviews 'Creed' from Funny Or Die

Literally Walks in for the Touchdown
Golden Tate, a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, caught a pass from QB Matthew Stafford yesterday, and literally walked it into the end zone for a touchdown. The Lions were playing the Philadelphia Eagles in their annual Thanksgiving day game, The Lions won, 45 - 14. The TD catch by Golden is fun to watch. He catches it at about the two-yard line. A Philadelphia defender completely misses the tackle, and it looks like everyone else wearing a white jersey gave up on the play. So Golden just walked it in. No rush, just a couple of steps like he was talking a post-turkey-feast stroll...

Let's Not Pardon This Turkey
While the Obama family was inside the White House celebrating Thanksgiving, a guy draped in an American flag jumped the fence and was able to get onto the lawn. The Secret Service apprehended him immediately, but the grounds and building were placed on lockdown for about three hours. Looks like those new security spikes they put up earlier this year didn't deter fence-jumpers the way they'd hoped. Scary stuff...

What if You Threw a Press Conference and No One Came?
Blaine Gabbert is the current starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49'ers. And he's been doing okay since replacing the struggling Colin Kaepernick. He showed up to a press conference yesterday. And he was the only one to show up. He handled it well. Read the tweeted progression from Mindi Bach, a sportswriter from the Bay Area.   What did #49ers Blaine Gabbert do when he showed up for his press conference and no one was there? — Mindi Bach (@MBachCSN) November 25, 2015 #49ers Gabbert took a seat in the front row and got ready to ask some ?'s! He was a great sport about it. pic.twitter.com/31o0NFrRuC — Mindi Bach (@MBachCSN) November 25, 2015 As far as Gabbert, he showed up on time. The #49ers did not list him on today's schedule so the media didn't know. — Mindi Bach (@MBachCSN) November 25, 2015

More Patriots Controversy
It seems like the New England Patriots are magnets for controversy. The whole Deflategate thing is finally winding down, but now the 10 & 0 Pats have another tempest brewing. At least this one isn't about them. It happened to them. They're calling it Whistlegate. During Monday's game between the Patriots and the Buffalo Bills, a referee blew a whistle that ended a play that looked like it might have resulted in a Patriots touchdown. After a huddle of about 15 minutes (okay, that's an exaggeration), the refs announced that the whistle had been "inadvertent." And the football world goes mad! At least this will give folks something to chew on for the rest of the season, right?   Coming up @FargoStRadio at 2p we recap #NEvsBUF game last night. Oh & what were the refs thinking here? #whistlegate https://t.co/9WiqkKA9Rb — Boston Herald Radio (@HeraldRadio) November 24, 2015   Dear @nflcommish, please fine Rex Ryan. Wonder Where Your Neighbors Went for Thanksgiving?
Thanksgiving is one of the biggest travel times of the year. People go amazing distances to be with their friends and family to celebrate and break turkey. The folks at The New York Times put together a pretty interesting graphic presentation to show the heavily traveled air routes. "Never Talk About Sex, Politics or Religion"
This may be the most awkward exchange ever between two people who make their living with comedy. Stephen Colbert had Bill Maher on his show the other night, and the discussion turned to religion. Stephen's a practicing Catholic - "doesn't mean I'm good at it," says Stephen. Bill was raised Catholic, but is now non-religious. Somehow, Stephen tried to convince Bill to return to the Church. I'm pretty sure he was kidding, but Bill didn't seem to get that. And that's when it all turned awkward. Check it out. Maybe it's just me?

"A New Classic for a New Generation"
There's been a lot of buzz surrounding Creed, aka Rocky VII. In this one, the son of Apollo Creed turns to Rocky Balboa to manage him as a boxer. Sort of putting Rocky in the Mickey spot. And putting Sylvester Stallone back in the spotlight after a pretty good stretch out of it. They're marketing this as your Thanksgiving movie. Might not be a bad idea to plan to see it. Take Off the Football Helmet, Put on the Dunce Cap
Johnny Manziel - the NFL quarterback who'd prefer to be known as Johnny Football - was named the starting QB for the Cleveland Browns for the remainder of the season. That was last week. Yesterday, he lost the starting position. He also lost the back-up position. He's now the Number 3 QB, and all because of video that surfaced showing him partying Manziel-style after being named the starting QB. When his coach handed the spot to him, he did tell him to be on his best behavior. Looks like maybe that didn't sink in...

Burying the Star Wars Hatchet
Jimmy Kimmel Live has a long-standing running gag suggesting that Harrison Ford is feuding with Chewbacca from the Star Wars franchise. Something to do with a woman - "a long time ago... in a galaxy far, far away," says Jimmy. Last night, it looks like a near tragedy managed to bring the two old friends together. Thank you, Jimmy Kimmel!

Hello, Miss Piggy
Adele has taken over the entertainment world as the year closes out. She was on Saturday Night Live this weekend, she pulled that prank with Adele impersonators on the BBC, and her song "Hello" is doing phenomenally well. So well, it's leap-frogging over anything Taylor Swift did in 2015 as the most-parodied video of the year. Look who's taking a swipe at it now. An Amazing Story
Wyatt is a 12-year-old autistic boy who loves the Blue Man Group. His right arm was amputated shortly after he was born. His wish was to have a robotic Blue Man Group arm. Doesn't A Capella Mean No Music?
An interesting moment at the American Music Awards on Sunday night. Harrison Ford - you might remember him as Han Solo from Star Wars? - introduced a musical segment paying homage to the music of Star Wars. Pentatonix, the truly amazing a capella group, backed by a symphony orchestra. An a capella group, with an orchestra... Am I the only one who finds that contradictory? Rather than compliment each other, it seems they worked against each other... What do you think?

The Lost Star Wars Audition Tapes
You can bet that when it was announced that JJ Abrams would be directing the upcoming Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens, he was buried in audition requests and tapes. Very funny clips - with some very interesting cameos too.

A Fitting Tribute to the Parisian Victims
At the American Music Awards last night, the producers put aside some time to recognize those lost in the Parisian terror attacks just a little more than a week ago. Celine Dion performed "Hymne a L'Amour," a French standard meaning "Hymn to Love." The translation of part of the song is so very meaningful:   "If one day life tears you away from me If you die than you will be far from me What's it matter if you love me Because I will die too. We will have for us, eternity in the blue of all the immensity in heaven, no more problems My love do you believe that we love each other God, reunite those who love each other."

Tag, You're It
Here's a viral Vine for you. Will Parks is a safety for the University of Arizona Wildcats. When his team faced the Utes from the University of Utah a week ago, the game ended in a tie at the end of four quarters, going into overtime. The four captains from each team met at mid-field for a coin toss. As the referee stepped forward to announce who'd won, Will started to walk away. The referee tapped Will on the shoulder pad, probably to keep him there until the announcement was made. So Will turned around and gently tagged the ref on the shoulder. Funny. And viral. At this writing, close to a quarter-million hits, with close to 13 million loops.

Really? Is This Really a Record?
Dontari Poe is a nose tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs. Bite Me Off a Piece of That Gold Leaf Bar
I do believe this is the true definition of decadence. The folks at Nestle, the fine purveyors of chocolate items, have announced a limited-edition specialty item. It's called the Sublime Gold Kit Kat, and it's covered in edible 24-carat gold leaf. Yes, you read that correctly. Edible gold. They'll be sold only in Japan, and only in eight stores that specialize in "selling only the most premium of Kit Kats in the fanciest of flavors," according to The Daily Meal. The stores have just hit the one-million customer milestone, and the Sublime Gold Kit Kat is part of the celebration. And it's only going to cost a little over $16. For one gold-leafed Kit Kat stick. Not even a full bar. Sounds expensive, until you consider that's what you pay for a Kit Kat at any movie concession stand here in The States.   Golden Kit Kats chocolates to go on sale https://t.co/35O0sg0O5Z pic.twitter.com/shTXR1QkwC — Daily Nation (@dailynation) November 21, 2015

Pushing a Little Too Far?
Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm behind the times. Kim Kardashian's talking about getting a push present. I've never heard of a push present, have you? Apparently, it's a gift a husband gives to his wife after the wife has carried a baby for nine months and given birth. Kim wrote about it on her website: "I like the idea of a push present—after nine months of pregnancy it's a sweet and well-deserved thank you." She says she has friends who've gotten gifts like a "special diamond ring" and a new car. What does Kim expect from Kanye? How about a Lorraine Schwartz diamond choker, like the ones she's worn in the past to gala events.   "We women go through an entire pregnancy carrying a baby...of course it only makes sense that we get something amazing to show how amazing we are! LOL!" Remember the good old days, when a newborn baby was push present enough?

To Infinity & Beyond... Just Not on an Airplane
This is a very odd story. TSA agents at the Orlando, Florida airport confiscated a Buzz Lightyear toy because it looked like a weapon. It's a plastic grabber - you squeeze the handle, a gripper at the end of the toy closes. In the middle is a squared-off lime green space ray gun. A young boy from Pennsylvania had purchased it at Disneyworld. And because the family didn't have anything other than carry-on luggage, they had to leave it behind. I'm all for tight security when it comes to air travel, but is this over the top? What do you think?   COMMON SENSE LOST? Child's Buzz Lightyear toy taken by TSA in Ft.
